Let's talk about East Bank of Plaquemines Parish

This week, the Point-A-La-Hache Ferry was ordered shut to vehicular traffic down due to problems with the ramp, which will require repairs.
There are two ferries in Plaquemines, both run by the parish - this one, and one 27 miles to the north in Scarsdale. There are no bridges in Plaquemines.
The east bank has got to have less than 1,000 residents. The west bank has over 20,000.
Point-A-La-Hache on the east bank is the official parish seat, and for some dumbass reason, a ton of money was built to re-build the parish courthouse there. However, the remainder of parish government is actually based in Belle Chasse, on the west bank.
The East Bank is a dying community, and one that eventually will be washed away due to losing our coastline. There is few retail and little jobs on the east bank, which means most residents of the area have to cross the ferry onto the West Bank for services, or go north into St. Bernard, and really all the way to Meraux, to find a grocery store or a decent drug store.
People can live where they choose. But I wonder the wisdom of a government continuing to spend money to service such a small number of people, in a community that will probably have to be abandoned at some point in the future anyways. Why not start to incentive these people to move to the west bank, where there are more services and better chance of long-term survival?

Yes they did, and the population of St. Bernard today is about 48,000, still less than the 68,000 it was pre-Katrina, but still 47,000 more than East Bank Plaquemines.
When it was decided to build the "great wall" basically on the Plaquemines / St. B line, that should have been the most obvious sign.

I have a friend that lives on EB in Plaquemine. He has several dozen acres he inherited and he built a house on it. It's a beautiful,quiet, serene setting. He loves it and wouldn't live anywhere else. He commutes to NO for work .

It probably went down something like this:
Bubba owns a business and wants a fat government contract. Bubba's cousin is in politics. Bubba's cousin finds an excuse to build something, no matter how useless, so Bubba can get that fat government contract he's been looking for. Bubba is grateful and gives his cousin some $$$.
