If you are in your mid-20s you'd probably enjoy Bozeman or Missoula more.

The summers are nice and the winters are milder there than other parts of the state. Definitely try to get into outdoor activities if you plan to move there. Billings itself is nothing special, but not a bad place to live at all.

Your wife is a dick head and an idiot. She doesn't appreciate the finer things in life and she doesn't have a clue what cold is if she thought Billings was disgustingly cold.

Id be all over that. If I hadn't landed the new job im about to start I was thinking of switching to AG industry and trying to find something out that way.

Appreciate the feedback, folks

I've heard Missoula is very cool, but it's not like I could casually make a 5 hour drive from Billings. Bozeman is just 2 so I'd probably check it out. It never really occurred to me until looking into this just how beast of a state Montana is. Absolutely gigantic

Nothing chaps my arse more then someone shitting on an incredible place because they don't know anything about it.

If you are thinking of doing that as a commute don't. My dad did that for a year or so, it sucks especially when roads are bad in the winter.

I only brought up Bozeman or Missoula in case the place you are going to work had different locations.

Obviously I don't know your whole story, but I'd jump on that if I were in your shoes.

I'm a debt-free 26 year old with no kids, no girlfriend, and very little family. I'm thinking I'd be a fool not to go

I'm not an outdoors man by any means, but I would move to Montana in heartbeat. Especially if you're young and aren't necessarily trying to set up shop there forever. People say this place or that place is beautiful, Montana truly is beautiful. I would definitely consider it if I were you.

Yep! Have family in Billings, Bozeman and Reed Point. Montana is a cool place to live for sure, just wasn't really for me (lived in Bozeman until I started at LSU).

If the job opportunity is good, you should go for it.

You must have had a bad day.

Coming from Louisiana and moving to a place where it gets -10 is disgustingly cold. I've been there, there's very little to do in Billings.

My brother lived there for seven years. He lived in a huge house on the rim. Mowed his fairly large yard with a manual reel mower eight to 10 times a year.

One Thanksgiving when I was visiting it was 16 below zero for three or four days straight. We went to his office to look out the window for the Billings Christmas Parade. In the summer it got down into the 40's at night.

Billings is in the flat "Big Sky Country" part of the state. In the 90's the pollution was pretty bad there. Don't know if the EPA is still grandfathering their refineries through like they did back then.

Lots of hour to two hour drives to really scenic places. We went to some fishing places 30 minutes away. You can drive over to watch the natives do there reenactment of Custer's Last Stand in the summer.

My brother's wife grew up in Plains. Now that's a beautiful place.

You haven't lived until you've eaten at the Billings Petroleum Club

If you are Native American out west you'll be treated like blacks in the south or Mexicans in Texas. The white people out there loathe their natives. It's the same way in Alaska with theirs.

Go West young man.

Have an adventure. At worst it'll be bearable and if you don't want to stay long term you can move in a couple of years and still only be 28.

Wife spent her childhood in Billings and do believe she would return tomorrow. Her brothers, who live in Shreveport, go to Billings on occasions...have never heard a negative word but they are outdoor types
