I don’t know why anyone would want to retire that early

I know you are aware of this, but start taking SS at 62. If you do the math, sure, you get an increased amount at 65, but you'd have to live to about 83 to break even.

You didn't account for holidays and other items that come up.

I'm military, Air Force specifically... so that account for literally half of the 7500! TRUEEEEE

I plan to. I've crunched the numbers and I'll be fine financially (barring something extraordinary).

Ha...I've only got 2,930 more days to go. Wait a minute...

ETA...was counting calendar days in stead of work days.

A good friend of mine works for Goldman Sachs. He told me that the only time he was ever allowed to turn off his cell phone was when he was on his honeymoon.

Turning off your cellphone and vacation time aren't the same thing. Goldman just inquired with me about a job, they get more than 2 weeks vacation.

Absolutely you get vacation but you also always need to be on call.

How old are is you? They like to recruit those guys straight out of grad school.

Yep, the stress and job demands, quotas, etc. are brutal for these new kids coming out of grad school. Thank God its easier for those of us who have been around awhile.

Ain’t a vacation if you have to bring the work laptop.

So what about someone who is semi retiring in 3 years, 7 months.

Can you do that math for me? Nevermind, I already know it by heart

30 years is more than enough time to save for retirement, even without social security. If you've been at all responsible in your 20's you can retire at 50-55 easily.
