When I was an Uber driver, some couple in the backseat didn't buckle up, and one of the few times I forgot to make sure they buckled up, I enter a DUI checkpoint.

Not all places have Uber. I literally won't drive at all in baton rouge if I have more than 2/3 beers. However when I'm back in hammond there are no taxis or ubers so I become a little more risky.

I was 19 and had three beers earlier in the evening at a friends house. I was in college and stayed at my parents lake house which was about 30 minutes from campus. I was not drunk but probably would have blown over the .00 status quo for being underage. Pull up at a stop sign at the county line and do not come to a complete stop because this is in the middle of nowhere. I see the blue lights and pull over thinking I am screwed. Officer asks if I have been drinking and me being stupid I say yes but I has been a couple of hours. The only saving grace I had was the the sheriff (Baldwin County) pulled me over in (Hancock County), and the cops in Hancock were not licensed to give a breathalyzer so they were not going to come out there. Cop told me it was my lucky night and let me go. I have not drank and drove since then. I figured fate smiled on me once and I was not about to risk it a second time.

6 years ago leaving the varsity after a concert. I had been steady on double whiskeys for 5 or 6 hours, a good n proper sweaty drunk. Our destination was my house off Standford right by Perkins so just a quick 2 mile backroads jaunt down east lake shore then morning glory and I'm home free. As soon as I hang a right onto ELS from Darymple, I see half of the EBR police department and two drunk vans waiting with open arms. About 10 cops were lined up standing to the left, I pull up to the first one but my window was broken and couldn't roll down. As the cop walks right up to the window I open the door, hitting him with it, and explain the window doesn't work. He tells me to exit the vehicle then asks where I'm coming from I tell him I just picked up my friend from the varsity bc he's had too much to drink. He said he can smell the booze on my breath to which I reply no sir I haven't had a sip, just trying to help out my friend here. He tells me BS and proceeds to give me the pen light to the eye test and walking test which evidently I performed flawlessly despite being pretty much blackout. He then takes my license, runs it, and returns informing me my license is suspended for an unpaid ticket. I apologize and tell him I didn't know and that I'll take care of it first thing Monday morning. He asks if I'm heading to my address on Stanford I say yes then he tells me to go straight home and don't drive again until my tickets are paid. As we're pulling away victorious, I see two girls walking just past the checkpoint and ask my friend "Is that Hillary and Alexis?" Sure enough we knew these chicks and I ask if they need a ride. They jump in and tell us their driver had just been arrested despite only having a few beers but he had admitted drinking to the cop. We all go back to my house and have a great rest of the night if you know what I mean.....Moral of the story: white privilege is real but you still must always deny deny deny, no exceptions.

We aare not representing ourselves as police. Our wind breakers have the name of the citizens safety group and sponsored by sheriff office. We only have blinking lights and siren and flashlights. We are on the sheriffs CB radio circuit and call for backup if the person appears too drunk. We don't have the power to arrest or even give sobriety tests. We pull them over and ask a few questions

When you pull them over with blinking lights and flashlights, you don't think they are stopping because they think you are the authorities? And again, you have no legal training nor are you apparently bound by any legal standards of probable cause. Again, please, what city and neighborhood is this?

Yep. You can get a DUI for benadryl or nyquill or just being a smartass. Doesn't matter.

And Ryno trolled the hell out of y'all.

Does it matter what causes an accident if someone dies? Aren't they just as dead either way?

You deserved a ticket!

True. I assume Katy doesn't have much. Especially on my random assed nights.

For about a month after sobering up, I was actively looking for checkpoints.

Silly thing is you think I mean that an officer's opinion of your condition should be the end all be all. I do not.

Even sillier that you think I give a frick what a cop thinks.

You could all get fired tomorrow and I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep, unless I stayed up all night celebrating.

I have used the cops once, and I would gladly have just handled it myself if it meant not having cops.

I guess that's why 99% are dicks, because they know they're useless. Protecting and serving themselves.

frick the police.

I just got a dwi two weeks ago.

Eta: leaving a crawfish cook off. Years ago while my car was parked in the same area. Someone knocked off my side mirror. I jb welded it back on. Well someone knocked that same mirror off this night. I didn't notice. I'm turn signaling. Doing all the right things. Cop pulls me over. Up to this point I've been chancing drinking and driving for 9 years so I'm like yeah this is it. These aren't Jp's. You can't talk yourself out of this one. Failed the sobriety test. He wouldn't let me look for my up to date insurance card. Booked and released so no real jail. Now just trying to figure out how to get my license back as fast as possible. Overall. Cop was a okay guy. I'd probably buy him a beer.

Me and some of the other neighbors have formed a volunteer group that works hand in hand with local law enforcement to stop and check drivers within the four walls of our neighborhood if we suspect drunk driving. We have cart blanch to stop anyone we suspect during our shifts on the weekends when he have our sheriff issued windbreaker on.

The problem is that checkpoints often bust people that were pacing themselves with a few beers over several hours and were driving just fine

People with this mentality ARE the problem. People who think that think their driving isn't impaired after a few drinks. If you're pushing .08, your reaction time is affected.

I've never passed that stupid eye test. I have really good vision and my eyes focus abnormally and the pupils dialate constantly without light changes so it looks like I'm on LSD one second and Heroin/Painkillers the next. For people who don't get that reference lsd makes your pupils big, pain killers make them small.
My eyes twitch a lot too and on top of that. It's like everytime I get pulled over I have to go through that stupid eye test. frick put out an eye chart, and i'll read the bottom line from double the distance, but put a light in my eyes and I look like I'm Od'ing.
