The wife and I didn't expect her 2 kids, my stepkids, to turn out to be pretty much useless as adults.
But, the decisions they make in their lives once they become of age are not in any way related to how we wanted them to wind up in life or the values we tried to instill in them to move forward.

A good friend of mine who's almost 20 years younger than me has 2 daughters and I told him one day to enjoy their youth with undying admiration for him and his wife because when they become teens both of you will be the lamest, most pathetic people on the face of the Earth.
Well, that day arrived and he now knows where I was coming from.

How absolutely destructive they are. My kids have ruined their bedrooms and my kitchen counters.

I didn’t expect my son to have a -9 glasses prescription at age two. I’ve never worn glasses so all I know is that he’s pretty much blind without them.

Today I had trouble explaining to my 4 year old that he can't crawl on the ceiling like Spiderman.
