There is actually 3 Six Silent Men books.
Book One by Reynel Martinez - about 1st Brigade LRRPs, 101st Airborne Division, before the whole division was sent to Vietnam
Book Two by Kenn Miller - about F Company, 58th Infantry (LRP), 101st Airborne Division,
Book Three by Gary Linderer - about L Company, 75th Infantry (Ranger), 101st Airborne Division

LRRP

I have never read up on these guys as much as MACV-SOG, but they were supposedly incredible at what they did. The only thing I recall about them were they were strictly Army units. Macvsog was a multi-branch special operations group.

MACV-SOG, I have read up on their exploits and those guys were crazy. I cannot even fathom just the fear/anxiety they dealt with on their missions behind enemy lines. Stories of multiple knife kills on a single patrol. Seems like video game shite in real life. They were the original black ops dudes.

There are a lot of good books out there.

We Few by Nick Brokhausen is my favorite. He also wrote Whispers in the Tall Grass which is probably equally as good imo.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot by Lynne Black

Secret Commandos by John Plaster. Thats his memoir. His other book SOG is also great and is an overview of what all SOG did during the war. He also put out SOG: A Photo History of the Secret Wars, which is incredible.

Across the Fence and On the Ground by John Stryker Meyer.

Born Twice by Dale Hanson.

I think you'll find most current special operators to be in awe of the SOG troopers.

A seal or delta guy from the GWOT era that was a MOH recipient recounted his story on a podcast of meeting some of the macvsog guys at the MOH dinner. He said he listened to some of their stories and was embarrassed so much that he wouldn't even exchange his war stories with them. He felt his stories wouldn't be in the same universe as what he was hearing from those guys.

My BIL was a C-141 pilot in the Air Force in 1969 and said "frick this boring shite, imma try to kill myself" volunteered to fly slicks and later gunships for the Green Hornets that flew those maniacs in and out of those LZ's. If you knew my sister, you wouldn't have blamed him.
