I've been to Illinois and have filled up a rental car with gas while I was there

I honestly don't understand why they are so broke? I guess its just because such a huge portion of the population in the South side pays leaches off everyone else? The burbs to the west and north are prospering, the down town area is prospering.
So where is the leach that is so bad?

I'm still reeling from the fact someone just tried to say Atlanta is better than Chicago in the Summer.

In the summer, yes. ATL heat can be unbearable at times.
During every other season, however, ATL is much better.

We do have 4 great seasons. Summer has some brutal days, but quite tolerable for a guy from South Louisiana (people here are pussies about it though).
Winter gets cold and we have occasional snow, but not "I can't feel my face when I go to the mailbox" cold.
Spring and Fall are pretty unbelievable.

The state pensions. A while back they baked guaranteed yearly pension benefit increases independent the economy into the constitution of the state. And our public workers get paid VERY WELL...and they game the system to get undeserved benefit levels locked in. It's the way the machine came to power is by promising those benefits. And because they added it to the state constitution it's nearly impossible to fight. Never mind no politician (other than Rauner who's now gone and Rahm, who kinda tried) would go there because it would be political suicide. Not to mention the judges are state employees...so good luck.

Heat is one thing, the overall city of Chicago itself though, in the Summer, is world class fun.
You can throw weather out the window and it still isn't close in the Summer.
The winter is absolutely unlivable to me though.

Give me a chilly early Fall day taking the train from Downtown to Wrigleyville for a playoff game, then back downtown for a Chicago steakhouse dinner and some live music in an upscale jazz bar any day over what there is in Atlanta.

Not really. I mean isn't the entire point of this thread the fact you hate Illinois and all the taxes and other crap you have to deal with in Chicago?
