The better question is why would they? As this thread has shown, it's mainly "just because that's a thing that you do".

It is presented as an option now, with pros and cons- rather than a forgone conclusion. With facts in hand, some parents still choose it, others don't.

Not medically necessary, painful, reduces sexual pleasure

Arguments have been presented

You choose to ignore them

So at one point, in the US it wasn't an option?

I thought circumcisions is better because it can get infected easier if not. Bacteria getting under skin, etc?

Statistics don’t matter

Think of the children

A lot of the arguments center on norms, elderly male penile cancer rates that are already astonishingly low, some reduction in already preventable STDs, aesthetics, and perceptions of sexual partners.

The medical need for it is very low and the rest is preference.

Cool

So there is a benefit to it other than aesthetics

I wouldn't say you couldn't refuse, more like it was just presented as the way to go. Parents are given information packets and sheets to be more informed.

The intact penis, much like lady parts, is fairly self cleaning and needs only standard hygiene practices to keep healthy.

Not much, and it is debatable.

I'm not knocking those who have had it done- just saying the medical justification is slim.

it’s always been an option because (tmi) none of the males in my family are circumcised

Because it’s not medically necessary

So it’s an elective procedure, and a religious ritual.

I haven't ignored them. They're just not very persuasive. They also don't take into account that a significant portion of the World doesn't practice it, and the majority of those who do, do so for religious reasons.

Statistics.

Do you not teach your children to practice hygiene?

I am asking out of curiosity, did you make a decision at some point to not have your boys not circumcised or was it something you decided right before giving birth?

I am concerned about all children, not just my own

Nice try there though

It’s more like when did it become a thing?

When babies started being born in hospitals with Jew doctors?
