Pretty sure your toothbrush is probably covered in human fecal matter as well

They check for this by the growth of coliform bacteria after sample collection, not some kind of poop detector.

It works because coliforms can't live long outside the intestines of a warm blooded animal.

Let's assume your toothpaste example is true and think it through: while topically disgusting, are you really going to get sick from pathogens that are already in your body?

Or do you stand a better chance of getting sick from someone ELSE's crap?

I under stand how it is possible to contaminate lemons with shite...but to contaminate 50% of all lemon slices served in resturants would take a hell of an effort....

Not really, when you consider how transferable this is.

Person A (who didn't wash hands) hands knife over to B (with previously clean hands)....B is now holding a knife laced with A's bacteria.

And now anything both of them touch is also contaminated.

There is a reason why ALL employees are told to wash hands before going to work (at least in signs if not managers).

Not when you consider how many people have handled the lemons, and who usually ends up with the job of cutting the lemons because it's probably on par with their skill set.

If you saw how many times people go from one task to another without washing, or using the same tools, or scratch themselves and then go directly to your food in a kitchen, it would shock you, and most don't even think about what they just did, especially when it's busy.

I only ask my servers that they stir my water with their finger before serving me, and only after they bus the table nearest the restroom.

20%.

That was what the report focused on. Said that ice machines would have to be emptied / thawed in order to clean them properly. Therefore it's rarely done.

Unfortunately true. I have my ice machine broken down and cleaned every 2 months. We also have daily cleaning ourselves. The storage bin that holds the ice actually doesn't get that bad though it needs to be cleaned. The most likely spots for contamination are the cubers and evaporators. These are usually made with an antimicrobial compound to help reduce this. The other major spot would be the filter that the water goes through. I've seen a lot of places never take the time to change out the $10 filter.

So, we can mark you down as being OK with somebody else's poo in your water?

I actually have my wife take the lemon wedges from my water to the bathroom with her. There, she runs them up and down the crack of her arse, top to bottom. On return, I squeeze them into my water.

In other words, if you dwell on stuff like this, you'd better just lock yourself in your house and grow your own stuff on the window sill.

Also has no problem with drinking someone else's poo, or just doesn't want to think about it.

sounds reasonable, but by that logic, wouldn't this be an issue with all food that is prepared...even the food that we prepare ourselves at home?...

I am just intrigued by the whole "lemons are evil" notion....

Sure, but it takes good sense and thought. My mom was a microbiologist, so I have this drilled in my head, so much so that if I even look at poultry too long I feel the need to wash my hands.

The lemons aren't, but the retardation around uncooked product and the handling of it is. Same goes for lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc.

I did get sick as hell from the fecal coliform in the wolf river. It's off the charts in that system.

If life gives you disgustingly vile, nauseatingly shite-filled lemons, make disgustingly vile, nauseatingly shite-filled lemonade

you could probably take a random sample of almost anything and it has a good big of microbial/shite activity going on

it's almost assuredly at a lower level now than at any time before, and a lot lower than 50+ years ago
