This was covered in 8th grade during Louisiana History. Our teacher covered it.

I loved history as a kid and have also never heard of Pinchback in my 35 years of living On this earth/state

I did too but I was mostly interested in WWII, the Civil War, ancient Egypt/Rome. I honestly don't know much about Louisiana history.

It makes sense. The most influential blacks from back then were biracial. Frederick Douglass is another example.

If the signage update cost is proportional to the number of letters in the name then my money is on them picking the longest name.

A 1 yr appointed governor in 1872 is not exactly getting a ton of publicity, black or not, in the late 1990s or early 2000s. I'm sure Pinchback came up, but I obviously don't recall it.

I'm not trying to be controversial here but I never knew that LA had a black governor at some point.

Sure did. He's the only one to date.

Pinchback was a badass. One of my favorite stories in Louisiana History.

Could be PMS pinchback, which I'm surprised they didn't suggest.

with at least one name suggestion using the N-word to reference the state's dark legacy of lynching Black men.
I bet the guy who works at a collection of the Rouge suggested that.

That is going to be a hard no from me.
