A lawyer I worked with emailed another lawyer and told him, "this client is crazy and I think you can get a lot of money from him. He's got plenty."

I was accidently copied on the email and he apologized to me.

Just FYI, I don't have much money at all.

I'm not sure what the test would be. He apologized and we were done.

Funny part is , I wasn't crazy at all. I called him for a question and he spent 45 minutes telling me how bad his personal life is and he's getting divorced.

That would be an ethics issue and you should refer him to the state Bar. If that had actually happened.

That being said, I did have opposing counsel try to email his client to call me an "a-hole" but hit reply and emailed me instead. Rather than refer him, I hit reply and told him "I bet that was meant for your client Dickhead." He subsequently puffed up to me and took great umbrage at the use of dickhead and claimed it was much worse than a-hole. Typical fricktard lawyer.

What is the focus of his practice? You were the client?

Charge him $500.00 for services rendered and tell him his case requires a specialty advocate and refer him on.

That's pretty funny. I've argued against opposing counsel about a lot of things, but whether the term dickhead is worse than a-hole is not one of them.

Well the answer to your question is, as someone above said, almost certainly a minor ethics violation. The bar aspires to have more fervent representation. At the end of the day, it doesn't arise to anything real consequential, sounds like a typical example of the douches that make all attorneys look bad

That's one of the damndest things I've read. I don't think I've ever referred a potential client to another attorney based on monetary considerations.

You either have a case or you don't, and if you're a kook, I'd likely just decide you don't have a case I'd be comfortable pursuing. I'd probably be frank as hell with you and give you a couple of names of people who might take your case. But I'd never encourage someone to take your case or money just because you have a case and money.

Poor, poor form, but I can't see how this dumbass move is worth anything more than a slap on the wrist from the bar.

At least you know where you stand. Sounds like an a-hole that I wouldn't want to do business with. Better to know now then when he sticks you with an unreasonable bill.
