Facebook and other free social media platforms are easily avoidable and I really don't think its a big deal for them to decide what they do and don't want on their platforms. That especially goes for hostile countries running disinfo. Boo hoo if they get the boot. I'm not going to get mad at a conservative social media platform banning liberal talking points or liberal social media platform banning conservative talking points. It's their shite they can allow what they want.

What about when Google, Bing, DDG, Youtube, etc censor, de-rank, or bury information when either pressed by, or in conjunction with, government?

I find your posts in this thread very interesting when you just posted a thread about a dystopian future due to ads.

Bro, Facebook is principled and it's highest priority is to protect people from threats of violence and hate speech. Oh wait....

quote:

Facebook allows war posts urging violence against Russian invaders

quote:

March 10 (Reuters) - Meta Platforms (FB.O) will allow Facebook and Instagram users in some countries to call for violence against Russians and Russian soldiers in the context of the Ukraine invasion, according to internal emails seen by Reuters on Thursday, in a temporary change to its hate speech policy.

The social media company is also temporarily allowing some posts that call for death to Russian President Vladimir Putin or Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, according to internal emails to its content moderators.
quote:

The temporary policy changes on calls for violence to Russian soldiers apply to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, and Ukraine, according to one email.

In the email recently sent to moderators, Meta highlighted a change in its hate speech policy pertaining both to Russian soldiers and to Russians in the context of the invasion.

"We are issuing a spirit-of-the-policy allowance to allow T1 violent speech that would otherwise be removed under the Hate Speech policy when: (a) targeting Russian soldiers, EXCEPT prisoners of war, or (b) targeting Russians where it's clear that the context is the Russian invasion of Ukraine (e.g., content mentions the invasion, self-defense, etc.)," it said in the email.

"We are doing this because we have observed that in this specific context, 'Russian soldiers' is being used as a proxy for the Russian military. The Hate Speech policy continues to prohibit attacks on Russians," the email stated.

quote:

Emails also showed that Meta would allow praise of the right-wing Azov battalion, which is normally prohibited, in a change first reported by The Intercept.

The Meta spokesperson previously said the company was "for the time being, making a narrow exception for praise of the Azov Regiment strictly in the context of defending Ukraine, or in their role as part of the Ukraine National Guard."

You're not allowed to promote Nazis or right wing groups on Facebook except for the good Nazis because they're fighting Russia.

Governments have done that since the invention of the printing press and the companies you mentioned all give heavy donations to the politicians who make those decisions so they really aren't exactly all that bothered to do those things.

You just posted they you are ok when private companies act this way, but you them dismiss that these companies are acting under the direction of said government.

And your view is that refrigerator door ads are signs of a dystopian future.

You are being extremely selective.

They push to suppress everything they disagree with, not just “Russian disinformation”.

You just latch onto one concept, therefore dismissing/defending the entire process.

It’s funny.

The fact that you don't recognize this as a slippery slope and respond with the typical left response like that says a lot about you.

This is very reminiscent of the responses from people defending the arbitrary and ridiculous covid restrictions. It's two weeks, OMG the horror!

Of course they do but this thread isn't about all that other shite its about the war w/Ukraine and Russia and I was initially responding to a post about suppressing Russian disinfo about the war. If you want to start anther thread about info suppression go ahead.

Bro, the virus didn't come from China and it wasn't leaked from a lab. I just don't see the big deal with censoring this obvious Russian disinformation. Calm down.

I don't vote straight ticket for either party. Never have never will.

And again this thread is about Ukraine and Russia. Start another thread if you want to talk about all that other stuff.
