I was watching Live PD last night and this baw got pulled over for whatever reason. The officer walked the dog around his car and he said the dog hit on a scent and so that gave him probable cause to search the ole baw’s car.

So he had no say in the situation

Once they searched the baw’s car they found no drugs whatsoever.

That’s bullshite.

Those dogs are trained to act like they hit on something just to give the pigs probable cause to enter the vehicle

What’s his recourse? I would be be pissed and would bring this to a lawyer to see how this can be prevented from happening.

What if the dog scratched his exterior paint up? Or got inside and marred his fine Corinthian leather? Who pays for that?

The cop can say the dog hit on something if it didn't.
That give him reason to search the vehicle. It's bullshite but nothing you can do.

You should cry harder. Not much, but a little bit.

One of my relatives had that happen to a new Vette. Dog scratched up the car and seats. Cops just told him to deal with it, and that he shouldn't keep drugs in his car if he didn't want the dog scratching it. He didn't do drugs, and it was a new car.

Some dogs are trained well, and the handlers work with them almost daily. Some handlers are weak people, and when their buddies want the dogs to "alert", the handler just says whatever random thing the dog does is an alert. They also make the dog believe it'll get a toy if it alerts improperly, so it always alerts.

Good cops = good dogs
Bad cops = bad dogs

I saw the segment and what I gathered was the officers misrepresented the entire situation. They claimed it was just a drug sniffing dog. The kid told them there was a firearm in the glove and he wasn't going near it (implying y'all ain't shooting my arse).

The dog hit on the passenger door. Glove box side. The cops then started in on drugs and ignoring the gun. All around, it seemed like blatant 4A violation caught on tape. The kid said he didn't agree to a search and then the officers had the audacity to even talk about their verbal judo tactic.

That’s exactly what happened. It was an odd series of events that didn’t add up

You’re right. That baw said he had a gun but refused to get it for fear of being shot.

I would done the same

I often wonder the same thing re. search warrants and homes. You know they leave stuff in disarray. Maybe not trashed like on TV, but still the place is torn up. Any recourse?

Dogs should not be sole probable cause. Maybe enough to detain, but not enough to enter my property

Saw a video on youtube of this happening. Showed some "gives" the cop gives the dog to start scratching. Funny when they started to search, and found the camera. Ha

If this is legit, the dogs should only be able to do one or 2 passes around the car. No commands or words. No touching the car by the dog. If they cant smell it then move on. Cant have a dog try to climb into a window you are forced to have open.
