Why doesn't mitch have the balls to take down Andrew Jackson? He conveniently left Jackson Square off of his hit list

Title to these monuments is not in the city's hands. That is a fact. Those who erected these monuments 100+ years ago never intended them to be city property, and the mayor and city council know this. The city and its lawyers are taking advantage of an unfortunate lack of title documentation to make the argument, under general property law, that if we do not know who owns them then the city does by default. This is disingenuous, but the local state and federal courts have sided with the city on this question.

Hopefully one day an archivist or abstractor will find proof of their actual ownership, but it will be too late for the four monuments at issue. Louisiana needs to pass legislation to prevent this type of thing from ever happening again, as does every other state in the South, in the interests of preserving American History and repudiating those despots and fascists who seek to erase the past.

I do not disagree with this at all. But it is not to the judge to rewrite the Law

Issuing a restraining order to sort things out because there has been doubt raised as to who owns the monuments and the property is not rewriting the law.

I'd be happy if somebody just dug into the fact that he owns two parking lots on O'Keefe (the other Landrieu siblings also own lots throughout town, btw), all the while overseeing the increase in rates for street parking. To say that's shady as all frick understates the case dramatically.

I think I saw a prebid meeting soon to improve this fricking moonwalk thing. Pretty ballsy.

Under what legal precedent did the judge have to do this in the actual case?

Doubt.

Did you not read the statement by the CITY fricking ATTORNEY. Even she has doubt and has imposed her own sort of delay until it gets sorted out.

Of course Mitch is such a selfish hardheaded bitch he's not even going to take advice from his own CITY fricking ATTORNEY

There was no doubt as it pertains to the actual court case

Y'all need to understand that. It was pretty damn clear cut

So the City Attorney doesn't know what she's talking about?

No wonder City Hall is a fricking mess.

You have a Mayor, The City Attorney and some bias Civil Judge that are going in circles over fricking monuments.

Yes. There is. That's what this whole 30 day delay is all about.

No. Judge Reese's reasoning was that the other monument litigation had gone on for an "inordinate amount of time." He knows better. The litigation has been going on for less than a year. Major litigation lasts for years and years. He knows this.

He also knows the city does not own the monuments.

Wholeheartedly agree. If anyone wants to know why he and Mary were really looking for tax credits and the St Claude streetcar line, it was because it would cause their property value in the South Market District to skyrocket.

Meh, can't say that I care about these statues, I'm more pissed they haven't fired Payton for wasting Drew Brees.

This will get interesting, the city will threaten them if they want to keep it up, and City Park members like myself will likely threaten to withdraw support if they tear them down.

Maybe, just maybe this gives Landrieu some cover if he has come to his senses just to drop the whole damn thing. If City Park refuses to let it go, then he's no longer on the hook.

This is what Im hearing from first-hand sauces in City Park Admin. There are major donors to the Park that are in a tussle about this and are demanding City Park Administration defend its assets or lose donors($$$). City Park Administration higher-ups are mostly politically aligned with Landrieu so they could give two shits about the statue. City Park is between a rock and a hard place. They are going to have to decide to between their political ideology and their revenue stream. In other words, do something they never have and grow a fricking backbone.
