Is there a move to rename Washington and Lee University? What about the Robert E. Lee Memorial at Arlington Cemetery?
It's okay with me if they pull the new Colonel Sanders ads because that guy is truly creepy. His voice is nightmarish especially when he sings about chicken in beans.

As I understand it, Lee Circle with the R. Lee statue was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 by the Sidney Barthelemy administration. The PT Beauregard memorial is also on the National Register. The Mayor, City Council, et al do not have the authority to move either without the approval of the SHPO and must meet the Federal Guidelines to do so. According to the federal regulations this may entail the recreation of a similar "Lee Circle" in an equally prominent area with all appurtenances as the entire Circle is on the register Moving it would entail a full recreation of the entire Circle with Street Car routes, mound, monument, marble obelisk, etc. Nice political rhetoric but I am sure that the administration either knows this or should have know it. When the Laws kick in that are requirements of being on the Federal Register the blame will then be placed on the Federal government when in fact the City actively campaigned within recent times to impose those restrictive covenants to insure its longevity as it is presently constructed and displayed. A simple case of jumping on the bandwagon when reality dictates that it can be done but with 10's of millions of dollars to do so and in the end you will have the same memorial in an equally prominent area as the law dictates.

So you are saying that a black mayor and majority black city council put this statue on the National Register of Historic Places. That's Unbelievable that they never felt offended by this monument, but a white mayor does.
