Up close? 2021. There was some nasty trash and food littered about on the beach.

White neighborhoods are safer on average

Didn't a lot of folks from Cameron Parish buy homes with cash in University Place after Hurricane Rita?

Not sure but many with cash built yuge homes in grand lake or gulf hwy.
Been here 79605 since 2007 and have lived all over Louisiana, LC is hands down better than Ellick, Laffy, BR, NO, Monroe.

that was more grand lake

and university isnt a bad area but it certainly isnt an affluent area for the most part either and it really isnt south LC either unless you consider McNeese to be in south LC.

but one shooting also doesnt make LC like BR either. They are very similar cities in that crime is mainly contained to only certain areas

in this case, people from those areas rented a house for a grad party(trashy as frick in and of itself) and the crime followed them.

I personally wouldn't go, but I pass it every day and it's actually not bad anymore... IMO. That said, I'm also not going to go

Lake Charles voted for this

Dude hasn't even taken office yet.

The problem, and it isn't only LC, is the new Air BNB/VRBO culture. You're seeing it a lot in 30A area in Florida as well. People are renting these places for cheaper than they should and having parties there with really no consequences.

Thats why so many neighborhood restrictions have been updated to state no rentals in HOA neighborhoods.

My comparison for Lake Charles is a better version of Shreveport/bossier

they both feel more like a Texas city than a Louisiana city and lake Charles has the much better casinos and food

A friend who lives in University Place told me that she had a lot of new neighbors from Cameron Parish after Rita who paid cash for their homes

I had a few friends who grew up there in the 1960's but I lived near LCHSwhich became an all black neighborhood in the 1990s. Crime on my parents' street went down after rent houses were sold to actual homeowners and it became all black.
