BATON ROUGE - For nearly a year, Nicholson Drive has been stripped of its top layer, making a rough ride for drivers.

An overlay of LA 30 between LSU and downtown Baton Rouge is only one aspect of a much larger project that involves re-aligning the I-10 off-ramp to meet with Oklahoma Street. Sidewalks will also eventually line that stretch of Nicholson.

The entire project including the new I-10 off ramp to Oklahoma Street will be finished by next football season, weather permitting. A new traffic signal will be installed at LA 30 and Oklahoma Street before the end of the year.

Yeah that ramp will probably take an extra year too.

I think there is a bunch of drainage work being done along here too. There does not seem to aba fast way to do that and let cars run through the project. A buddy I know who works road construction said they could do jobs in 1/4 of the time if they could shut roads down.

Anyone have the plans for what they’re doing at the exit ramp & Terrace?

It looks like they’re extending the exit ramp to Oklahoma Street? If that’s the case, thank God cause nobody coming off the bridge knows what the frick “Yield” means.

It's bullshite and pisses me off every single day.

I remember going to work one day and seeing one side stripped and thinking how awesome it was that they were finally gonna repave Nicholson because it fricking sucks. And now a year later it's still there, on both sides. It's stupid. Don't strip it until you're ready to pave it. Seems like common sense to me, but I guess DOTD disagrees.

It’s a LADOTD issue. The engineers who gave the most $$$ did a $hit job doing thier design. All they did was google earth and draw some line on plans. Once it was milled they realized it needs drainage.

So then went back to engineers (who will charge more) to design drainage.

So the public only sees the contractor out there doing nothing and blame them.

The money people behind the Water Campus wanted a better entrance from the interstate. The Terrace exit is being moved South a block to line up with the main entrance to the Water Campus.

The reworking of Nicholson was made a part of this project. I guess the money people wanted it upgraded too.

The news reported that when work began they discovered many drainage issues so they are correcting those as part of the upgrade.

We are seeing Louisiana at its finest. The project is meant to help the “right” people and it’s creeping alone in true La. fashion.

This must be some well-connected contractor or paving company in Louisiana. They did the same in New Orleans uptown a few years ago. Uptown is riddled with pot holes. The low bidder presented a model where they would auger out a sqaure around each pot hole in uptown, then come through all at once and pave all of them.

It took over a year to come back through and pave. Meanwhile every genius voter in NOLA had a 5x7' square hole in front of their house filling with water and breeding mosquitos. There was no parking. It was hard to get large goods delivered to the house. It was an utter disaster and our councilman lost his election over it.

Of course Latrasha made a bunch of noise about it and guaranteed us the holes would be filled by Christmas 2021, which did not happen.

When is Engquist moving H&E’s headquarters there? He’s team downtown right? Or is he going to keep it way out in St George?

Couple of nice looking buildings there but they are mostly leased out.
