L.A.C.E Louisiana Law Enforcement Program

I recently learned about this program which Calcasieu parish has actively used in recent years. Apparently it uses off duty police to target "high accident areas". On the surface it sounds like a proactive police department but the more I read it sounds like a legalized way for the DA to make money on the side.

Did u know LAPD has a DUI training program that allows civilians to get hammered on the government's dime and preform practice traffic stops for the recruits for training purposes??

He's scum. My grandfather was a farmer in Calcasieu parish. Derosier fricked over lots of farmers and collected a nice insurance check off their backs.

Pretty much every big academy has that. It would suck arse to go and do it and be told you're one of the sober control subjects.

This was a big to do last year...several state troopers got fired because of this program. Apparently the program has a quota and several troopers would fill the quota quickly and say they were working the maximum amount of overtime they were allowed when in reality they weren’t working but about a quarter of what they said they were.

The DA gets extra money for his office through the ticket diversion program. He will dismiss the ticket once you "attend driving class" which is watching a video and pay HIS office a "fine". None of that money goes to any other agency like the court, sheriff, indigent defender office, etc.

Just wait until you get a couple tickets when you aren’t speeding and get back with us. If a trooper says you are speeding and you are parked on the shoulder you are still going to pay.

This is the only problem I have with the program.
The LACE Program helps fund a lot of the court expenses (IDB, Victim Assistance Program, Jury expenses, etc...)
Cutting them out by using a diversion program kills the original concept of the LACE Program.
