There is little you can do to control any hype about the ongoing peak (the public will react the same regardless), however, you can dampen any subsequent peak by throwing adding a positive to the collection while we're on an upswing.
If all the baws in December got tested when they thought they had it, today's 5388 cases would be the 40th highest daily total, not the third, and adding a positive to the collection in December wouldn't have changed the December restrictions and rhetoric at all.
In addition, we'd be looking at a CONFIRMED CFR of 1%-ish instead of hanging out just north of 2%. (With an IFR still below that).
I can see not wanting to throw in another positive test when we're on the downswing or at a steady low. But, if cases are rising, game theory would suggest you pump the numbers then and help your future self out.

I don’t Pay attention to cases or the hype. I have done everything as normal since all this started and have been fine. Pretty sure I had it but that was a couple of weeks before testing was a thing.

This is tests reported. Doesn’t necessarily mean it was a one day total. On the LDH website, it lists the amount of positive tests by collection date. The highest one day total of this wave so far was this past Monday, at 2,560 positive tests. This highest one day total for positive tests was on January 6th, with 5,981.

Yeah, I would think if someone knows 9 cases right now, than having 5000+ reported in 1 day for the state shouldn't be all that surprising.

A) those statistics are mislead as hell, and we both know that.
B) just because those stats are misleading, we don’t have to ignore how vaccines work altogether.
We know the vaccines aren’t 100% effective. We know some of the vaccinated will die from Covid. Getting vaccinated at 70 is about you. Getting vaccinated at 30 is mostly about your fellow man. You may not give a shite about others, and that’s fine, but that’s the basics of the decision. To each their own, but the intellectual dishonesty on both sides of this shite is nauseating.
