Part of the issue is if an Active Reserve of NG member is ordered to Title 10 status (same as Regular Active Duty members) they are entitled to pretty much all of the same benefits and held to the same standards that comes with Title 10 status. That's part of why McHugh has ordered a review of the standards. I understand the restrictions to preserve burial spaces but you can't state unequivocally that one Title 10 SM's death is more valuable than another's.

You really think the Army Sec caved in to this family or anyone else for that matter? Look at why he did this. He understands that more and more, the Reserve and Guard do everything AD soldiers do, except it is part time. The committee says it is like that because of the space, yet spouses who never served are allowed. It is all political, and has nothing to do with who deserves it. This soldier deserves it more than the spouses.

I'm not completely up to speed on the details, but local news reported it this way: He was initially denied because he had never been deployed during his 8 years of Nat'l Guard service. The LANG was appealing the ruling.

I'm not sure if this actually a case of "the family complaining until they got their way". IMO, if there's room at Arlington for Ted Kennedy, there's room for this guy.
