This guy is a moron or trolling. Either aren't necessary now.

I've been working on my house for 3 months preparing it to put on the market. They began prepping the outside for paint Tuesday, and were supposed to paint last week. That ended Wednesday. I am empty nesting and needing a major downsize.
I figure that my house value went up after this. The problem is, so did the value of anything I will want to move to. And now that I have so much empty room, I'm thinking I might keep it for a while so I can put up family and friends that lost their's until they can get there's up and running. Now, I don't really know exactly what I'm going to do going forward.

just because they can legally gouge doesn't mean that they should or that it's the right thing go do.
It's not gouging. It's simple supply and demand where the buyer is actually willing to pay more. Trust me, if buyers aren't willing to pay more, then the market won't rise. Buyers are the ones that drive up the market price. Buyers have been pushing up prices in areas not affected by any weather conditions. The housing market is tight...very tight. It's a seller's market right now and Baton Rouge's situation will amplify that condition. You may have 20 people bidding on the same house pushing the price way beyond the asking.

I have a condo in Old Goodwood that I am renovating and about to put on the market. My realtor called today, asked if I had damage (I don't) and said she wanted it on the market next week. Seems to think it will sell quickly. I will just be happy to be rid of it. And I don't live in BR anymore, so I don't have to worry about finding a place.

I just sold one of my rental homes in Texas in less than 24 hours. Had 16 showings. Crazy market right now.
