I am not someone that wants to defund the police, BUT I'd be thrilled to see Sheriffs around here lose some power here in Louisiana. Sheriffs answer to no one and the departments can get inflated b/c they handle things that dont' need to be handled by law enforcement like tax collection.

But at the same time, I can't help people who refuse to help themselves. These are policies that they wanted. And I will vote with my feet if necessary by moving my family to a better, safer area.

That, along with support for other liberties and rights (including right to own guns) are classically liberal ideas. The term "liberal" has been hijacked unfortunately.
And good luck explaining to some republicans that they and Donald Trump are more in line with classic liberalism than "conservative" ideas. They would be offended by the suggestion.

Basically. This is like Baton Rouge's Council on Aging, which accomplishes very little beyond providing a paycheck for friends and family of connected people. Except that in LA County, there are probably hundreds of them like that.
There are some programs out there to help homeless and mentally ill that do provide an impact. But doing that at the expense of law enforcement is unwise IMO. And they definitely need to be watched closely.

Actually LA County jail is one of the biggest mental health facilities in the country. These people would be better off getting mental health services in a hospital. I think it would benefit the guards as well. If the public approves it, it actually may not be a bad thing.

I'm for any legitimate efforts to (re)fund mental health efforts across the country. However, it should not be done at the expense of quality and effective policing.
In a country like ours, there is no reason whatsoever that mental health treatment should fall on untrained, understaffed, and underpaid jailers under the direction of a Sheriff. These people have no business caring for legitimate mental patients, but they are being asked to across the country. We have slashed mental health funding in this country, to our own detriment.
We must find a way to fund the treatment for those unable to get it themselves without undermining police departments. It is not an either/or deal.
