Austin’s new rock alternative, 101X, is upgrading it’s signal from 12,500 watts to 86,000 watts so that it can reach the entire city of San Antonio, a city that doesn’t currently have a rock alternative format on its FM dial. Here are maps to illustrate the upgrade:

It's depressing when I hear Guns and Roses and Soundgarden on the classic rock station

Same owner that killed the legacy AAA format on KGSR. No bueno.

Alternative radio is much better than classic rock. Good that the people of San Antonio now have that choice.

It’s always a little surprise when I’m reminded that people still listen to regular radio

I was so surprised to hear that KGSR flipped to “Sunny 93-3.”

I didn’t know about this until I was driving back from an Astros game in Arlington and I picked up KGSR just south of Waco and I heard Dido, followed by 10cc, followed by Booy Meets Girl’s “Waiting on a Star.”

I thought, “This isn’t AAA.”

Sure enough, during Station ID at the top of the hour, I learned they changed their moniker to “Sunny.”

What’s weird about this is Northeast Mississippi (Tupelo) has a Station called “Sunny 93-3” as well.

I wonder if they’re owned by the same company.
