I lived in Yemen for three years. It was the custom there for people to remove their shoes when entering a house.

My daughter has new carpet here - makes everyone remove shoes upon entering home.

Yes many. I lived in Hawaii for many years and this is standard in the local households.

I don't wear shoes in the house because it's just more comfortable.
Don't mind, if asked to do so in someone's place.

We do in our home. I've become so accustomed to it I instinctively take my shoes off upon entering someone else's home as well.

We don't wear shoes in the house but never require guests to take theirs off.

I think it's a good idea simply because it's cleaner.
Going into a public restroom, walking through parking lots, etc.
One's bound to walk through piss, shite, vomit and God knows what else.
Who wants that inside their house?

And, no it isn't weird.

My wife has a friend that insists on taking them off. She's half Chinese and the first time we visited she asked us to take them off. It was in December so I stepped in out of the cold so I'm not going shoeless in 20 degree weather and she got a little aggressive in trying to stop me stepping too far in her house with my shoes on.

I would consider it at my house but we have a dog that tracks in dirt and stuff anyway so it wouldn't make much of a difference.

I'm kind of like that my floors are really nice and my carpets are really delicate so I don't want people in their groups shoe stepping all over it plus streets are so dirty you have fecal matter all over them

The key is to make sure that people know about this rules they don't have growth socks on I also have slippers that I can loan people

Yes. Very good friend of mine and his wife have this policy. She's 1/2 Okinawan though, so it's a carry down.

Ate dinner at an Indian doctor's house a couple years ago and they straight told me I had to do this to come inside.

I mean, it was a nice dinner party. That seemed weird.

I have a fairly informal no shoes policy. I'm not going to fuss at guests, but my wife and I don't wear shoes even with guests in the home.

It's a smart thing to do. Imagine what you walk through everyday and then smear it around your house.

Many people in this thread still don't understand what I'm talking about. I talking about you going to someone else's house and they ask you to remove your shoes.
Many of the homes I've visited in Romania even had slippers at the front door or would bring you them as they welcomed you at the door.

I'm not sure that they would raise their voices and start pointing fingers if I don't it, but I've never tried to.
