From age 8 to 13, it seems like the number of reps should be more important than traveling around to different states to play 4 games in some small podunk town. With as many travel teams as there are now, wouldn't kids be better served by creating some sort of elevated rec league with all of the local travel teams and just play more games locally or get more practices in? If there are 10 or so travel teams in New Orleans metro, for example, why don't these 10 teams just form a league and just keep playing each other?
This what 90% of travel ball is
Most teams don’t leave a 30 mile radius if the area has good parks

This is like a bat sign to the travel dad's. They'll be here soon enough to tell you how the $300K they've collectively spent on their kids baseball all paid off when they got that scholly to Bethune Cookman, Centenary, Belhaven, LSUE, etc.
every dad will spend 300k to have their kid get a scholarship to that fake college John Melvin in Crowley.

Gonna be en explosion of trannies a few years from now after redneck dads lived vicariously through Colton’s flat billed hat and super cool blue sunglasses

Longest thread in TD history?
Not even the longest travel ball thread, I’m sure.

A lot of good points covered here. So what we have hashed out is pretty much that Travel Ball isn’t all bad but mostly bad. And not all people who participate in it take it too far from a time and money standpoint but the majority do. Can we all agree on this?

sure right after we all agree that the rec is a majority of karen's and kevin's who want to put no effort into their kids' lives but are the first to type an email to the supervisor when their kids suck and don't see the field much and don't understand why the coach didn't teach their kid how to field a ball at the age of 13.

Is travel ball any worse than Asian parents drilling their kids to win every spelling bee and math fair? At the end of the day none of it matters for 99% of kids.

It may be true now, but it was the growing influence of travel ball culture that caused it to get that way. As more and more parents were influenced to think travel ball was the only way for their kids to develop it pulled more and more of the “good” ball players out of traditional leagues, thus creating a snowball effect that now has caused very reluctant parents to feel like they “have to” do it for their kids.
The toxic culture of travel ball is what caused Rec ball to no longer be a viable option in a lot places. I think we can all agree on that.

After Travel Ball culture made it that way

Rec ball didn’t help itself by being “all inclusive”. Blaming travel ball for all of recs failure is disingenuous at best
I don’t remember literall special kids being in rec ball when I was growing up . I coached two a few years ago. God bless those kids but every other kid on my team got nothing out of practice because of it

care to explain to me how much you believe the average travel ball team say in say Baton rouge travels and how much you think they spend? I can promise it aint close to what you think it is.
and rec is the way it is because it caters to the lowest level player and offers nothing to better players. I coached LL for 8 years with my oldest...I tried to make it work, tried to make it better, they dont want it to get better and LL makes everything difficult AF. Not to mention the rules are horrible for any kids with skills or that is really looking to develop.

The ones I know spend an average of $35,000 a year all in with travel expenses, fees, equipment etc…

The average kid in BR isn’t leaving the BR area to play. Team fees are around 2k then you have equipment. There is no travel expenses for average kid in BR, Nola, Houston
Sure a couple of the biggest and best teams which is 3 or 4 max travel but really only traction really travels. The others might do a destination World Series but that’s it
good try though

Sheeit I thought you was talking about the homosexual who used to play at SLU.
