ro…you are a prick. Plain and simple.
No im not, i promise im not. It’s just gets annoying having to explain the same things over and over
As far as not wanting to play with the kids who aren’t very good it’s almost like you have never been around highly competitive kids before. They absolutely get pissed when kids who aren’t putting in work outside of practice cost games
As far as the 5a/6a schools in DFW…do you think those are the only schools like that?
I live in Louisiana, lake Charles to be exact. I could send my kid to barbe, Sam Houston, sulphur, St. Louis and it’s the same concept. Plus my area doesn’t have rec in 13/14
But not just my area..the guys in BR…if you going to catholic or any school in AP, LP it’s the same concept.
Live in Lafayette and want to send you kid to a good school…. Like any of the catholic schools or Acadiana or south side…same thing.
Unless you live in a rural area and a little school it’s the same thing. Do you think a kid can play rec only and sit out 2 years after playing 46/60 and make barbe or Sam Houston? Even if you tried playing travel at 13…you will be so far behind you will be lucky to make a team and almost assured to not make anything higher than AA.
Do what you want with your kid but don’t blame me and others for spending our own money for rec ball going to crap.
And if you believe rec is the better path than why do you care what others do? Isn’t you way better anyways?
And I’m not bent out of shape, just tired of the BS. Got guys in here mad their kid didn’t make a team and then mad if travel kids play rec too.
And also why am I prick for asking how you plan to replace the 250 practices and the 200 extra games? What about the hours of lessons and practice at home? You understand the best travel kids in the country are putting in 10+ hours a week of individual training at about 12 on right? How are you making that up?

Man you do the exact opposite of trying to dispel the stereotypes of travel ball dads

Nobody’s blaming you for anything

This is about travel ball “culture”. You hate repeating yourself, but want me to do the same. I’ve said the idea behind travel ball is fine. I’ve also listed the cons of it, many of which have been echoed by professionals themselves.
The culture is what sucks.

What culture? Explain it to me
Posted on 8/12/25 at 6:08 pm to lsu777
The culture referenced by the above poster.
It’s the crowd that thinks their kid is the best, to the point of not understanding team dynamics.
It’s the demeanor that makes it look like you are reliving your glory days through your kid, and you’re getting that D1 scholarship.
It’s the visions of a dad with his hands on the fence complaining about a strike zone or calling balk on the pitcher when he doesn’t know the rule.
I could go on. Obviously, these things can’t be proven on a message board, but parts of the personality can bleed over for sure. I umpire weekly. I see it too. It’s funny, and I feel bad at the same time.

So if your boy or girl didn't play travel or competitive sports between the ages of 6-14, whether it's baseball, softball, dancing, ballet, cheerleading, swimming, tennis, volleyball, gymnastics, golf, basketball........what would you have them do?
Because whatever it is, it's not going to be free

I would try and make them play multiple sports. But I'd give them every summer off to spend time with their family.
Where I live Farragut, Tn. Plenty of good competition here without having to travel hardly anywhere. And multiple leagues.
Baseball, softball, cheer, you name it.

I am still trying to figure out why people give a shite about how they spend their money and time.

The best part of this thread is the suspension of all reality that Kirk had his kids in rec ball, or that any pro athlete currently that complains of travel ball actually does rec ball with their kids

In baseball only. That's the massive waste of time and money I'm referring too.

I know idiots that travel from Florida to California all year round and their kids are like 7 and 8.
We have gotten to the point in society where we take the biggest fringe lunatic of any group and assign it to the whole
I also don’t believe you about year round travel at 7 “from Florida to California”. Thats just a horrible internet lie

The stigma for travel ball is equal to that of dance, cheer, and gymnastics. My area doesn’t produce or provide for world class golfers. I played some PAGA events and was on the middle school golf team, but that wasn’t some big expenditure.
I think the stereotypical basketball issues crop up a bit later with the AAU circuit.
The idea that what you do HAS to be competitive at a high level is part of the issue. Golf and tennis are great examples. Those are sports that many people play later on in life as well. I love golf, and I want to be better than I currently am, but I also have a job and a kid. It’s a fun hobby I have. Aside from fixing the slice on my drive, I don’t need to take lessons.
My dad taught me how to play when I was about 7 years old. The values I have from golf are not from winning tournaments, which I did, but rather playing a round with him on our vacations.

I shite you not. They chase those irrelevant rings they love so much. Even have trophy cases for them.
And hell it's still coach pitch at that age.

Yep, chasing rings and the ultimate payoff for the travel ball moms, getting to make the same end of tournament Facebook post and pictures
"Another tournament weekend in the books! So proud of my amazing player and the whole team for battling hard through the heat and coming away with a runner-up finish! Every practice, every early morning, every long drive is worth it to watch these kids do what they love. They're growing so much on and off the field. Now time for a mountain of laundry and a few hours of sleep before next weekend! #TravelBallLife #BaseballMom #ProudMama
