Awful lot of "if it was my kid" group speak in this thread. The question that always comes to my mind is why, if you'd kill the person if it was your kid, wouldn't you do so if it was someone else's kid? If it is a heinous act its a heinous act.
Is this a serious question?

Yes, there could be some misinformation. His dad was a nurse and after the crash he went to the hospital where his dad was working. His dad told me he stayed by his side the entire time and he himself made sure the doctor ordered a blood test because he knew his son wasn't drinking or on things. That's the story his dad has told me numerous times over the years and why he is blown away he hasn't gotten out early and lost appeals. The poor dad lost his oldest son at age 19, then his wife a few years later, then his youngest son had this accident. Legit lost everyone in his life in a couple years. i still go by and talk to him because I have some fond memories with all them and he's such a nice guy. The son in jail was too. But a man did lose his life so just sad all around.
Prescription narcotics can also trigger the statute, if they come with a driving/heavy machinery warning. If it’s in Baton Rouge, I can look it up and see if I can see what went down. But if not, or if you don’t want to know either way, that’s all good as well

Good lord you’re worthless.. prison has a punitive purpose not just a societal protection housing unit… intent is not relevant when you cause death while simultaneously breaking multiple laws.

Prison is meant to protect society. What protection does the public need from this guy?
He got drunk and killed somebody with his car and fled the scene. He is a danger to society. You’re a moron!
He's just a troll. No one could possibly be that retarded. He is pretty good at trolling though and must entertain himself.

He can always get at referral but they can spin him at the job.

Not calling 9-11? We don’t have Good Samaritan Laws for a reason. You really need to look into the details of his case. The guy wasn’t recklessly driving drunk on the freeway. He was backing out of a parking lot. If he had no alcohol in his system he’d have never went to prison even if the end result was the same
The prison system is overcrowded at it is. Keep people in it that commit intentional violent or thieving crime. Prison for accidents is dumb.
So driving drunk in a parking lot is better than driving drunk on a freeway? And how do you think he got home - you think his house was at the end of the parking lot? Also, if he rolled over two people in a parking lot even if he didn't have alcohol in his system, he likely would have been charged with vehicular or negligent homicide. You have to be really negligent to be going fast enough to roll over people in a parking lot and kill one of them.
And fleeing the scene of an accident like this guy did when he knowingly rolled over two people is not an accident, honey. He was charged for that too. It's a dangerous and bad person who leaves a person to die without calling 911 to get immediate help to try and save the person's life due to injuries he caused from driving drunk. His friend who was with him yelled at him to stop, but he didn't. And his friend got out of the guy's car and ended up finding his own way home.
