The smell of the carpet in a brand new mobile home when your family was shopping for one that they really couldn’t afford. Yes, I was poor.

The smell of the Sears/JC Penney catalog the second you opened it. Mom would always wonder why her 13 year sons enjoyed "reading" the catalog more than her.
