I call most old people Mr., but I wouldn't give two shits if someone younger than me didn't call me Mr.

I feel like you have to be super insecure to be offended if someone doesn't call you mister. You aren't "above" someone else just because you've been around longer than them. This is probably just me being a millennial and actually thinking, rather than doing something because "that's just the way it is"

Trashy and disrespectful

Comments from the OTypicals in a similar thread.

Ahh. You liberals love telling other people when they should feel disrespected.....

little kids shouldn't be be shouting things like "Hey, Jim..." to adults, but other than that, people need to get over themselves.

I'll always say Mr. And Mrs. First Name if I'm familiar with somebody of a generation above. Mr. Mrs. Last Name if not familiar.

But I gotta admit I feel weird when some people younger than me do it. I insist our interns call me by my first name even though they're my bitch work underlings.

I agree that it's disrespectful. When our son has buddies over, they call me Mrs. Okellsbells. There is one that omits the Mrs. the first hour or so... but I correct him.

When I was growing up we had cousins that were much older than me. My parents didn't like us calling them by first names due to the age gap, so for a decade we called them Aunt or Uncle. When I was in my teens and found out they were my cousins it was funny.

Depends on the kid, his age and the situation. Most of the time if a kid calls me by my first name I will correct him..."thats Mr.Pav to you boy."

My mother would have slapped me across the room if I did call an adult Mr or Mrs

Actually it's not weird. Even the children of our very closest lifelong friends call us Aunt and Uncle instead of Mr. and Mrs. This is not uncommon at all where I'm from.

Well, I suppose my parents thought it was not appropriate for a 5 and 7 year old to call people in their 30s by their first name, and that is the solution they came up with.

This trend started 20+ years ago methinks.
And, My kids had always addressed me as Dad unless, after several times with no response, they would say GREG a bit louder. Always made me chuckle.

I don't care at all about this. I also think you can treat people respectfully using a first name and disrespectfully with "Mr.
I don't believe any of that implies respect.

ETA: I introduce myself to my son's friends with my first name.

If I didn't address an adult by Mr. And my dad or either one of my grandfathers were around, I got a swift hand upside my head. Learned quickly.
