Jail isn't punishment these days, it's a place to stay for free meals, free gym equipment, and probably better living quarters than many of them lived in.
Jail can actually be a better living environment for some, which is why no one fears jail these days.

They are an expression of anger, commensurate with the savagery of the crime. Angry revenge-fantasy speech is not "mob rule". At worst it's just an expression that we are still healthy enough as a society to hope that they face severe punishment. These are the things angry people say when they want to blow off steam. Personally I would like to bury him up to his head, pour honey on his head, and let the fire ants work their carnivore-istic magic. If the OT, rushed the jail, and murdered the guy that would be an example of Mob Rule. And that would be an unhealthy statement about our society. This is just guys talking shite, and I think it's a normal and healthy expression of anger.
