Give me a break.
Swaggert is a crook. The SOB has a bank of telemarketers that burn up the phones every month when the SS checks are sent out.

So he only wants money from people that do not fly commercial or do not fly at all!! Those of us that fly commercial are demons!!

You actually believe that? I would think I would know if they did that.

Now, if the plane was used to fly cancer patients for treatment or take Doctors into shithole countries weekly, I could understand it. Somehow I don't believe that's gonna happen.

No you don’t, buddy. I know the organization through and through and nobody makes phone calls to people asking for money.
There is a staff of about 4 college part time people that take orders on weekends, about 8 during a full time shift.
There is about two people staffed on prayer line during the week.
Stop talking out your butt. It’s not a good look.

quote:He absolutely preaches that if you (1) give him money then (2) you will be "blessed." I've heard it preached with my own ears. Just because he spends the money on broadcast fees and maintaining a huge multiplex is not a reason to fleece the poorest folks out there without doing ANY kind of tangible ministry outreach. Hell, Swaggart even shut down a bus ministry they had to bring folks to the church from North Baton Rouge. The entire church is focused on the broadcast--sending out an effective video stream 24/7.
Swaggart doesn’t preach any of that nonsense Copeland does.
Meanwhile, the Baptists and Samaritan's Purse are right here in the BR/LP communities actually rebuilding homes and lives after the flood--being the hands and feet of Jesus to a world in need. Know how much flood relief Swaggart provided? I do. None.
I don't love the Baptists--I'm agnostic after all--but I have to give them props for actually doing meaningful ministry and not just making sure they have a "national broadcast network."

So if you give to a church, he says you will be blessed. Not big cars. Big houses. Blessed.
That’s the gotcha you have.

Obnoxious house and giving to a snake oil salesman is a sign of people who aren't long for their money.

IT'S A LIE DUDE. He's offering "blessings" in return for cash. Very un-Jesus like.

Well. I worked in one of the departments that received donation promises, and sent mailers and such out when I was a kid fresh out of HS, and if anyone knows it here, it’s probably me, and Swag isn’t my cup of tea, but he also isn’t a charlatan of that ilk by any stretch. He really believes, and his money goes to mission work. There’s plenty to take issue with The Swag about, but that really isn’t one of them.

Their argument is about getting people saved. They use the broadcast to preach Jesus. That’s the outreach.
If you want to give money ton organizations that do community outreach, that’s all good and well. But they are pretty upfront about their goals. They aren’t fooling anybody.

Why is it so important that his word gets broadcasted at the cost of millions? Is he the only preacher in the world?
He may not be using funds to buy jets but he is certainly using it to feed his vanity.

I used to work there and my family has been close to theirs for a long time. You can believe what you wish but they aren’t riding high on the hog. They take about one to two vacations a year and it’s usually to a friends place. They don’t buy lavish things.
Swaggart is 82 years old and still works 5AM-4PM, his wife is full time at ministry at 80 yrs old running the place.
Believe what you want but the man writes, sings and preaches. His whole life is that ministry and he puts in the time.
I’ve been to their house. The only thing extremely lavish about it is he has a piano. The maintenance is pretty lacking.

I'll have my wife collect the solicitation mailers from Swaggert the residents of the nursing homes she visits get one month.
Just because you are helping to facilitate the con man is no reason to think you can come on public forum based in Louisiana and defend the guy without some blow back from other posters. We have seen the guy's actions since he was a kid. We watched him and Gorman fight it out. We watched him blow millions on Bluebonnet and saw him in his fancy cars, big houses and fancy suits.
His cousin Jerry Lee has more scruples and that is not saying much.

I always wanted to start a church like this but I'm not sure I could sleep at night. These guys don't seem to have a problem with it though

quote:Dude. Please. I've endured Donnie Swaggart's blathering before. I have heard him explicitly state that if you give God a $1,000.00 via credit card "in faith," God will repay you twofold, threefold, maybe even tenfold!!! "You've got to step out in faith." So, yeah, that is my "gotcha."
So if you give to a church, he says you will be blessed. Not big cars. Big houses. Blessed.
I've listened periodically since back in the old radiothon days, and it's always the same thing: Some poor person giving an amount of money they can't afford with the hope that God will bless them with even more money. Hell, they even get folks on the air to give testimonials. Or at least they used to back in the radio days. They would get folks to say: "I gave $100 that I couldn't afford, and, a day later, I received $200 in the mail. So, now I'm giving that $200 to see what I get next."
I understand Darwin's law and all, and someone is probably going to separate these fools from their money. I just hate to see it going to a ministry without ANY tangible outreach.
