Then someone needs to build a hotel and restaurants for those 1.4 million people.

Where would you suggest that money come from if they're not staying in what lodging is there and not using the existing businesses? These people aren't rich. And the same government handing out tax incentives to Ham has no desire to do the same so they could start something up.

And truthfully, even if they did, people aren't going to stay there. People who are driving in from out-of-county, out-of-state are going to stay in a major metro area like Cincinnati (which NKY/Florence is part of) where they can spend more than a few hours doing things.

Was there a few weeks ago, it was packed. I could easily see it doubling the towns population in one day.

Another Thread about the Ark

Seems this guy is always complaining about something. A month ago he was claiming he was losing money due to low attendance. Now supposedly he's had millions of visitors?

Nope and that's part of the problem. People coming in aren't staying in the town or spending money there. They're staying in nearby Northern Kentucky/Florence and driving in.

Well its a bit difficult because there is only 1 crappy sunrise hotel in the town. The nearest town dry springs has one decent hampton and it stays full. The other hotels 20 mins south are almost full constantly. Willamstown is like Bunkie. 2000 people a day cant stay there. Until the hotels and restaurants are built no one will spend $ there. It would be like someone saying people arent spending money in folsom, LA even though global wildlife is there.

To be fair, this tax should have been part of the agreement from the start. I wouldn't like a $700,000 a year tax sprung on me, either.

I can't really speak to whether he is doing anything truly underhanded or not, but it seems poor planning on the city/county/state could have prevented this from being required at this time, when the attraction had the kind of numbers projected that they are seeing.

And with any govt entity, you give them 50 cents now, they want a $1 tomorrow.

I've not been to it, live about 1 hour away, and I have no plans to. Seems to me once you have visited once, there is no reason to every go back. Not sure of the business model.

IF the LEOs will then focus on real crime and not harass Joe Citizen for BS tax generated offenses, then it is well worth it.
