Texting and driving is the worst. Just as bad as drinking and driving, yet nothing is ever done about it. We even made it illegal where cops can easily drive for 20 seconds and catch someone,but nope. Evidently not looking at the road isn't that big of a problem.

The only time cops use that as a reason to pull someone over is if they're trying to get them for DWI late at night

I drive an 18 wheeler, so I'm prepared for my downvotes.

When passing through a city on a highway or state road, I always get in the left lane. Too many people like to gas it to get in front of a rig then slam on the brakes to turn into a restaurant. 80,000 lbs of vehicle is hard to stop for a dipshit on their phone that doesn't realize that their turn into a strip mall for a nail appointment is less than 1/4 mile away and the safest thing for both of us is to just stay behind me.

Interstates I stay right though. Even when I get behind a slower vehicle I at least wait until there isn't a line of cars on my left to make my move to pass.

Only time I go through BR in the left lane is I12 West - the left lane is the only one that isn't an exit only after the merge. I usually get over to the left around Sherwood.

wont be from me. I feel for yall alot. most people have no idea what it is like to drive one and then you have to deal with the crowd that hates you because they are scared of your big rig. All while you are just working

I have no problem with this in a city. I'll do it too if I'm passing through. I'll also do it on the highway when the level of service gets to about a C or D because at that point there's not much passing anyway. May as well use all the capacity that's there. But when the volume is low enough that there's actual passing, I'm fanatical about passing on the left and then returning to the right lane.

Texas are the worst at thinking thy should determine that the left lane goes 6 miles over the limit. frick a Texas drivers, they never move over. Pay attention to it, Texas and black ladies refuse to move.

I'll take that bet. A lot of drivers around here don't even have cars that can do the speed limit up some of the hills but does that keep them out of the left lane? frick no.

Louisiana is bad but when you hit that stretch of 10 from Orange to Beaumont it's like they come out of nowhere to ride in the left lane. It's terrible on that stretch especially because there's always construction there.

This thread is about people breaking the law to enforce a different law when they themselves are not law enforcement.

I do have a scenario for Lucas...Say you're wife is having a heart attack or a baby and the only thing you can do is rush her to the hospital and some dipshit in front of you wants to play policeman for the day and try to slow you down cuz he's a cool guy. What would you think of him? Still saving a life?

In reality, cars going 5 mph slower than the surrounding traffic have a greater chance of causing accidents than cars going 5 mph faster, and having slow drivers in both lanes often results in faster drivers weaving in and out of traffic, drastically increasing the risk of accidents.

Translation: Get the frick out of my way or I'll rear-end or sideswipe you, and when that happens, it's your fault.

Yes, that was sarcasm...

If I'm turning left within a couple miles, I'll go into that lane when it's safe rather than last minute.

I will say that I was impressed with how well drivers minded the left lane the last time I was on i12 West over by Mandeville and Covington.

This pertains to two-lane roadways. Not four lanes.

There are other statutes that apply, just not the one you cited.

That's the correct statute he just didn't quote the right part.

quote:

71. Driving on right side of road; exceptions
A. Upon all roadways of sufficient width a vehicle shall be driven upon the right half of the roadway, except as follows:
(1) When overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction under the rules governing such movement, including passing lanes;
(2) When the right half of a roadway is closed to traffic while under construction or repair;
(3) Upon a roadway designated and signposted for one-way traffic.
B.(1)(a) Upon all multilane highways, no vehicle shall be driven in the left-hand lane except when directed otherwise, preparing for a left turn at an intersection or private road or driveway, overtaking or passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction, or when right-hand lanes are congested; however, no vehicle being driven in the left lane except when directed otherwise or preparing for a left turn at an intersection, private road, or driveway shall impede any other vehicle that is traveling in the same lane and behind that vehicle.
(b) Upon all multilane highways, no vehicle traveling in the left-hand lane shall be driven at a speed slower than any vehicle traveling to its right on the same roadway.
(c) Upon all multilane highways any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the circumstances then existing, shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic except when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway, or passing or overtaking a vehicle proceeding in the same direction, if passing on the left side of it. Nothing herein contained shall be construed to authorize driving any vehicle in the left lane so as to prohibit, impede, or block passage of an overtaking vehicle in such lane and in such event the vehicle in the left lane prohibiting, impeding, or blocking passage of an overtaking vehicle shall expeditiously merge into the right lane of traffic.
(d) The provisions of this Subsection shall not apply during a declared state of emergency when contraflow has been activated.
(2) In addition to the requirement of Paragraph 1 hereof, any vehicle proceeding on a multilane highway at a speed slower than ten miles per hour less than the posted maximum speed limit shall be driven in the right hand lane then available for traffic, or as close as practicable to the right hand curb or edge of the roadway, except when overtaking and passing a vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway. Persons in violation of this Paragraph shall be punished by a fine of not more than one hundred dollars, or by imprisonment for not more than thirty days, or both

It's all over. I drive between AZ and CA often and people camp in the left lanes going at or barely above the speed limit on I-8 and I-10, it's pretty bad.

It really depends on how crowded the highway is. Most of my interstate driving is around the New Orleans area. If you move into the right lane you are stuck there for some time. The highway undersized and full in both lanes, even out of the city. In areas that are more rural, I agree with you.
