You caught hell for good reason. If you attenuate the logic enough, everything is a slippery slope for everything else. Hell, it's what liberals do regarding firearm ownership and violent crime every day. Weaponizing the nanny state to restrict the liberty of consenting adults to contract with one another is anti-liberty nonsense. In fact, I would argue that "conservatives" being so staunchly against gay marriage even now loses them credibility in the larger "gender identity" argument; if you're a unreasonable cantankerous dick to everyone, people are going to start ignoring you, even when you have a valid point to make. When a line is getting crossed, defend it. But don't claim virtue in defending an unreasonable line just because there's a line in the future you're afraid we'll cross.
