The craziest part is if they had opened the hatch and vented the silo, it could have been avoided. But they feared the soviets would interpret opening the hatch as a sign we were about to launch. Crazy.

And yes, to those who mentioned it.... It is nearly impossible for a non-armed nuclear warhead to accidentally explode (nuclear style). The explosion in Arkansas was caused by fuel from the rocket. Nuclear warheads are designed not to produce a nuclear explosion unless armed.

You should watch the documentary or read the book.
And yes it was command and control on netflix.
