Be sure to attend his graduation. It may be the most litter free place in the U.S.

Only time senior jumped my arse was when a sand flea got in my ear canal and was eating me alive. Of course while we were practicing for final drill.

Oof.

Seems like we got all of our utilities and stuff issued at receiving on our first day. The first night, we got our heads shaved, and did a lot of paperwork and they took all of our personal stuff.
Got to sleep about 3 hours, then got started on all the receiving stuff. That was 40 years ago though. Things might have changed some.

1967 MCRD San Diego. I had a very funny Junior DI named Furtato. He was a dead ringer for Fred Flintstone. Our fist week of training he announced that the next day was Sunday and all would attend a worship service. He said that he would take the Catholics to Mass and Drill Instructor -----would take the Protestants to church. He rolled his eyes and asked "There are no Jews here, are there?" I started laughing. I knew that I was in a bind but he asked if Private---- the only one that his remark was funny. I only recall one other instance where a recruit got a pass from any of the DI's.

That's awesome! I stepped on those yellow footprints on March 22, 1996.

It feels like yesterday!

You should be, thank him for his service. Being from the south, we are all patriotic. When you have a son in active duty it changes things. When your son is deployed it really changes things. Mine goes to Army jump school later this month at Benning and then to Special Ops training at Bragg.

Not much, maybe the sequence of it, and that was 10 years ago. I remember getting a few hours of sleep those first 48-72 hours.

yep
I got to Dago about 7 or 8 in the evening May 12 1982, was told to go find the bus outside and to shut my sewer.
We sat on that bus for hours, got to the depot about 1am. We were all bald by 2am. We were on the road at zero 5, a friggin mob stumblin around MCRD with flashlights.
I remember not having a bowel movement for at least a week.

I am pretty confidant that this very second he and his platoon mates are getting a face full of a nasty DI breath.

MCRD San Diego fall of ‘88....send lots of letters. Have his buddies send letters with little heart stickers....his Drill Instructors will get a kick out it. 13 weeks of hell, but he’ll be a changed young man forever. Congrats to him and your family.

Looking forward to meeting up with about 10-12 of my Desert Storm buddies down in BR on Easter weekend.

Tuesday and not a Monday? That's strange.

Hope he didn't show up looking like this.

I hope he's not 18X. He'll probably get reclassed if he's not selected or washes out of the Q.

You bring your son to the recruiting office on Monday. From there they drive the new recruits to MEPS near NOLA, spend the night, fly out to boot camp on Tuesday early morning, recruits arrive and processing begins. The phone call comes that first night they are there. Tuesday.

Okay it was Sunday for me in 2003. Had short drive from the office to the MEPS in Atlanta. Then drove to PI in a van on Monday.
