Even I can swim, but I grew up going swim in the bayou across from my grandparents house. Nobody went to swimming lessons, you learned in the bayou. You get thrown in and someone yells to tell you what to do. There was always someone close, but you didn't know it at the time. Its amazing what you will learn how to do when you need to do it.

My ex brother-in-law joined the Coast Guard right out of high school, probably 50-60 years ago. Couldn't swim a lick. On the day of his physical, they were required to swim the length of the olympic size pool at the training center. He jumped in with everybody else, then the instructor turned around to talk to someone. He climbed out of the pool, ran around to the other end, and slid back in. The instructor turned around, saw everybody in the water at the other end, and said everybody passes. He was in for 4 years. CSB

This never happened.

Most people seem to be able to independently close each eye. I can’t close my right one unless I close my left one too. I’ve tried a million times.

There is no way in hell you go 4 years in the coast guard and it’s never discovered you can’t swim.

But yes 90 percent of black people cant swim and if they do it looks like they are drowning.

I mean, it sort of makes sense. That type tends to avoid the outdoors and the sun, both of which are usually required to go swimming.

I almost drowned in a lagoon while we lived in Hawaii. We were transferred to Langley. Stopped to visit my Grandparents in San Francisco. They had a pool. Parents told my Grandfather they couldn't get me into water because of the accident. GrandDad was a Marine in WW2. "I'll take care of this." Picked me up and carried me to end of the diving board .......And dropped me in.

I learned to swim .....
