You made the right move. My friends lab died earlier this year from eating a sock.

Why do we have five pages that assume the dog would have puked it up or passed it? It doesn't work that way every time.

My dog has puked or passed 90% of the time, but the one time he didn't it was obvious he wasn't going to and it was awful

Talked to the surgeon earlier. He said that some of the elastic from the sock had loosened and moved into the intestines but was still attached to the sock in his stomach....so it was squeezing everything together. He had not eaten or drank any water since Friday. Doc said if I had not brought him in he'd be dead within 48 hours.

ETA: I'm not sorry for spending some money to save my dogs life

Not being a dick, but what did you expect him to say "well mr Choctaw, I opened him up and it came out real easy, probably would have passed it on his own. You can write that check out to Dr Makeshimfeellikethesurgerywasreallynecessary DVM"?

Not all people are assholes....and I saw the X-rays. If he would've been able to pass it he would've told me so. Plus I know my dog and could tell something was very wrong.

How long after eating the sock before you realized what happened?

Had a dog that would eat socks and underwear, but fortunately I always caught it early on and was able to hydrogen peroxide it out.

dumbass ate a sock so i had to pay $2000 to open him up and get it out.

That sucks because my dog had to be cut open last Friday for eating two pairs of underwear and it only cost $800.

my dog passes tennis balls somewhat regularly. He only eats them after they have been broken and ripped in half so I guess that helps.

ETA: never had to have surgery.

a couple of days. he's done it before but usually pukes them up fairly soon afterwards. He's a boxer....so when he wouldn't eat, drink, and just laid around for a couple of days i knew what had happened.
