I've heard a lot of this from high school classmates...
The industrial collapse is quite real, I go down Engineers Road and Peters Road a lot when I'm down there, combine the loss of industry there with the closure of Avondale, and you can see a lot of causes of decay.
Besides Algiers Point and Old Gretna, Old Westwego is a pretty nice area as well. I still have a lot of family living there spread from Westwego to Algiers Point (west to east) and Jesuit Bend/Lafitte (North/South)

It was nice back in the day. My mom went to Higgins when it was all girls. My dad was at west jeff. Lived in woodmere when it was still newish. Was safe but lacked cultcha
