It’s now entered the American Zeitgeist as something that may or may not have actually happened. It’s like some kind of deep cultural distrust of the story mixed with a weird one-time-only news/law enforcement blackout- resulting in a big question mark . There is no clarity, no consensus, no cultural “agreement “ on what happened and why. It’s like a second hand recounting of a foggy nightmare .
