NASA’s Juno spacecraft has successfully completed its 8th science flyby of Jupiter, passing over the gas giant’s swirling cloud tops once again as it continues to unravel the mysteries of the largest planet in the solar system. The mission itself also now has a new project manager, who will oversee the continuing flow of information being sent back, which has already greatly expanded our knowledge of Jupiter, upending some theories and presenting new questions.

That is astounding. Jupiter is next to Earth probably the most interesting planet.

This is absolutely amazing to me. All the dumb shite humans focus on, imagine if we actually put resources behind getting to the other planets in our galaxy and beyond. But no, we have fricking selfie sticks and and vagina hats.

Are there ever breaks in the clouds or is it a perpetual storm of gas clouds there? I'd like to see photographs of the actual planet

That is the actual planet. Deep down is a ball of hydrogen in a liquid metallic state but beyond that just lots of clouds.

So you’re saying one couldn’t walk on Jupiter?

Serious question?

They’re called gas giants for a reason. Full of cool moons though, some which may harbor life.

Cool pics. Me and my 3 year old looked at them and discussed them for about 10 minutes.

For anyone wondering when they’d reach “the surface”:

Are these real pictures or just representations made by some graphic artist?
