Original quote:
quote:

The bomb – twice the size of the nuke dropped on Hiroshima and dubbed “the mother of all bombs” – was dropped on Afghanistan this afternoon.

I contacted the news desk and editor about the ridiculous statement. I didn't get a response, but this is what it was changed to.
quote:

The bomb, twice the size of the nuke dropped on Hiroshima, was used on an ISIS tunnel target, the Pentagon confirmed.

I guess they are going to double down and just go with that now with "Pentagon confirmation." They know it really is more than twice as heavy little boy, but context implies twice as strong

You are absolutely the bomb we dropped today was atleast 10 times bigger than the one we deployed today.

You picked an Enquirer genre rag to present your argument. This is their home page pic. This isn't journalism and it's a thread tactic that reminds me of something MButterfly would try to con the PT with.

I realized it was a tabloid after I sent the complaint. Not everyone knows the credibility of every supposed news agency in the world and an article like that about a real current event may cause action from some idiot. That's not exactly like an onion article. Main stream media isn't to far off nowadays anyway with all the sensationalism.

If you can find one mainstream media source trying to pass this MOAB off as twice the size of a nuke, please link it. My only point here is we can debate sensationalism in journalism, sure, but foreign based fake news sources to correlate an argument to a WaPo or CNN won't get us off the ground.

What about businessinsider.com. This was portrayed as the blast radius of a MOAB in the article "Here's how a 21,000-pound bomb like the one just dropped on ISIS in Afghanistan would affect your city"

When it would really look more like this.

At least they took the image off of the article altogether.

ETA: It doesn't say twice the size but it shows way more than twice the actual blast radius of the device.

I would simply guess one stopped at a radiation radius where the other portrayed two additional criteria past radiation. The darker core of the first pic mirrors the second pic rather equally. Without knowing what the outer 2 rings are on the first pic in terms of a key, can't venture a guess. Could simply represent the upper altitude smoke coverage... who knows.

What is the link to the first pic you think was intentionally fake btw?

And to the second... why is it the measuring stick?

Never said that it was an intentional fake, just sensatstionalism. At least it was corrected. You won't find it in an article anymore because like I said they removed it, but check the link address of the posted image in question.

ETA: The second image is a phone screenshot calculated for an 11 ton blast radius as opposed to probably an 11 kiloton blast radius which they probably used and has been mistaken all day. If you look to the right you can see "effects radi for 11 ton" in my screen shot which is accurate.

Article said "size" not blast radius. Sometimes you have to read between the lines.

You shouldn't have to read between the lines especially on something like this. They are selling that the bomb dropped in Afghanistan is twice as powerful as the bomb that was dropped in Hiroshima, and the vast majority of people will buy it.

I don't know if you've realized it yet but each example you've given to prove your point(s) have had critical information omitted. One was clearly tabloid and the other 2 models I can't even substantiate. We readers should not have to Guess at what you have posted as alternative fact.

Scary...

It's scarier knowing there are people who will come across a website that looks like this and feel the need to contact their "news desk"

Just because you and I know the article that started this is a British tabloid doesn't mean most people who just search "MOAB Bomb" and come across the article will also. I didn't know at first. Articles like that form opinions in weak minded people which unfortunately is pretty common. They also purport to be members of the Independent Press Standards Organisation if that even means anything.

As far as the two images, I don't know what to tell you. The first image is still on Business insider's server even though it's not in an article anymore. I could have and probably should have removed the radiation aspect of the calculation, but would that have increased radius? You can see I used 11 tons.

No it sounds like they said size, not power. You interpreted power, not size. maybe stick to the definition and not assume...

The bomb – twice the size of the nuke dropped on Hiroshima and dubbed “the mother of all bombs” – was dropped on Afghanistan this afternoon.

I dont see "power" in this line

Please exchange this map for a map showing the epicenter as Bryant Denny and we'll talk-

We'll give them plenty of time to evacuate their 229 National Championship Trophies to the nearest WalMart.
