If your new employer is ready for you to start working, I'd go ahead and do that. I wouldn't stick around after they made contact after I asked them not to.
But make sure your new employer is okay with you coming to work sooner before you do stop showing up to your old job.

Contact your new hiring manager and find out what your current company said and if the new company agreed on anything. Let them know of your intentions regarding the old company. They can't force you to stay.

I'm assuming there's a ongoing project or something similar that you're a part of? Sounds like they're concerned about losing an employee mid-way.
If that's the case, you should tell them that shite happens.

True, but in some industries, and depending on your level of responsibility, it is expected that you give more notice.
This. If you're easily replaceable, whether through a new hire or a coworker picking up your responsibilities, two weeks is fine. People think 2 weeks is a black and white thing when it really isn't.

The situation is that and worse. They put us on a shite project.
I found a new job and quit on a Friday, the other guy quit on Monday, so now they are desperate.

I would let your new boss know immediately that you didn't authorize your previous/current employer to contact them. Then I'd turn that 2 week notice into 0-day notice immediately on the grounds of compromising situation by them.
ETA: rest well at night because YOU didn't burn the bridge, your previous employer did by their selfish actions.

Well, it's easy to see why you're leaving; they obviously suck.

Quit both jobs, they'll never see it coming.

I think the smarter decision would be to get himself fired from both jobs so that he could claim double unemployment.

Some companies sign agreements saying they won't recruit the other's employees without their knowledge.
