The truly sad part in all of this is I can't find a single resident who gave two shits about the statues before our divisive mayor opened his mouth.
Probably because no one believed someone like Bitchy Mitch would ever come along and remove them.

Can the next mayor just put them back up?

Shame on Mitch Landrieu. He has done nothing about the Confederate street names in the city. That is unacceptable.
I can only imagine how much of a cluster this would be. Please don't give him any ideas.

I see what you're saying but it's a false narrative. Prior to all this, there were plenty of new orleanians who quietly adored these works of art and maintained them with their own money. For years they have been maintained with no help from the city. People did care beforehand, at least on the pro monument side.

Just don't think those men deserve any public shared space. Its long over due.
So... What's next? Personally I find it deplorable that several people on our money owned slaves.
Mount Rushmore? Strike those slave owners from the rock.
Hell, while we're at it, let's go ahead and rip apart everything that makes the united states, the United states. After all, we built this nation on slaves and drove the red man from their lands. How many countless humans lost their lives due to the horrible white man?
ERASE IT ALL!!!
I do love slippery slopes.

How is there memory erased?
We all know and remember Adolf Hilter; I just wouldn't want him publicly memorialized and I would respect my jewish brothers and sisters wishes because I respect them and their history.
Same goes for blacks and these confederate generals. They'll never be forgotten; They are just traitors that don't deserve public memorials.

I would not be upset if the streetcar ran over the idiots with the confederate flags

Why is their presence bothering you?

Just going to repeat a Jeff Davis quote:
The past is dead; let it bury its dead.

Weren't these racist generals fighting to keep blacks here?
Pretty sure they weren't committing genocide.
Poor analogy.

I am aware of the slippery slope and it does give me some pause...but Im not losing sleep over us doing right and not honoring what could have been morally bankrupt men.
Tough, they shouldve done better. Its not like there weren't people at the time that realized these institutions were morally and ethically depraved.
Thats our history we have to confront if thats the crazy. We did we do that and why did we have to put these measures in place? Def aint the blacks or natives questions to ask.

Jefferson Davis Pkwy has already been mentioned in the news, possibly renamig after someone who was important with Xavier but I cant remember the name. I think the businesses on Jeff Davis pushed back on it pretty hard though due to the major PITA it would cause
