If they have suspicion to drug test you in Singapore they will. If you fail you will be kicked out of the country or put in jail. If you are a citizen of Singapore and you go to Amsterdam to smoke weed and come back with it in your system you will be thrown in jail if they catch you. You can’t possibly compare this to america baw.

I live in Texas and it’s mostly Mexicans here too. I still love the red beans and rice but maybe it hits different in Louisiana.

Argentina is far less.
you keep saying this. i have dozens of coworkers in BA who would laugh at your delusional ideal of their cost of living. primarily due to their hyperinflation. they work for one of the largest corporations on the planet, are paid exceptionally well comparatively in their field and many live in tiny NY sized apartments or spend hours on public transportation traveling from their parents home’s.
eta: and i also know at least a dozen of young talented employees who have left Argentina for jobs across Europe. Moved their entire families.
but you’ve clearly got a grasp on the lifestyle afforded by the cost of living for young professionals in Argentina

You would need around 3,700.7$ (145,290.6$U) in Montevideo to maintain the same standard of life that you can have with 2,000.0$ in Buenos Aires (assuming you rent in both cities). This calculation uses our Cost of Living Plus Rent Index to compare the cost of living and assume net earnings (after income tax). You can change the amount in this calculation.

Consumer Prices in Montevideo are 97.3% higher than in Buenos Aires (without rent) Consumer Prices Including Rent in Montevideo are 85.0% higher than in Buenos Aires Rent Prices in Montevideo are 48.2% higher than in Buenos Aires Restaurant Prices in Montevideo are 95.7% higher than in Buenos Aires Groceries Prices in Montevideo are 96.5% higher than in Buenos Aires

With all due respect, you don’t know what you are talking about and I wish you would stop acting like you do.
I wonder why none of your friends move to Uruguay. I mean it’s right there.

"Third world shithole"? My son, age 39, has lived there for 6 yrs now, so he lived over half his life here in the U.S. Long enough to be able to give a valid comparison of the differences. He's traveled all over Japan, well outside the "major cities". On my 2 visits, we specifically stayed away from the major cities. Cleanliness. Politeness. In comparison to today's America, relatively crimeless...bike riding is a major form of transportation & of the 1000's of parked bikes, I saw zero bike locks; they just park & walk. Educationally, their mid school teachers & up are college professors-like. Rural Japan is beautiful. Their respect for their elders is off the charts, especially in comparison to here. Food is great. Life expectancy is years longer. The toilet seats are heated. Culturally, yes, according to my Japanese daughter-in-law, the population is 90% + Japanese. My son has found no negative aspects of that in his daily life. It is a male dominated society. The population is slowly decreasing; son says the marriage rate is dropping. Happily married with one young daughter & another on the way, he will not be returning as he overwhelmingly prefers living in Japan.
If it weren't for US Taxpayers and US Military Spending Japan would now be either Russian or Chinese and would indeed be a shithole like both of those. Japan is no different than any other nation that is not the United States...they are children living in the upstairs part of mama and daddy's house while the parents live in the basement and foot all the bills. And like children since time out of mind they conclude that they are smarter and better than mama and daddy because they live upstairs. How sooooo many Americans miss this is beyond me.
Japan also has a host of social programs that would be considered socialist programs at best in the US that the US will not even consider at home but will help finance abroad.

Well you’re right, and I didn’t intend for this to be solely a comparison of US to Singapore which, as you said, you can’t compare except in certain aspects. My point was that “Singapore = strict = bad, US = loose = good” is really misleading. The US is so lax on certain things that I don’t see a scenario where the US doesn’t devolve into tyranny in my lifetime, by which time we’ll still be lying to ourselves about how we’re a democracy. Not Chicken Little syndrome, there’s plenty of historical precedent for that. To be honest, we probably need it. We’re a victim of overtolerance becoming intolerance and I don’t see it changing course.
Also, the original point was Japan is the best. People responded to me saying Singapore sucks because of their weed laws, but Japan does similar shite if you’re caught smoking.
But, OK, you win. I’d rather live in a country that I can smoke weed in, where they invite a rapist who tried to stab a cop onto Good Morning America, or build statues to a guy who overdosed a few years after he held a gun up to a pregnant woman’s uterus, and burn down the first Wendy’s they see when any of this happens.

Folks in Singapore do not have the right to free speech, there is no freedom of the press and they can and are frequently imprisoned for long periods of times without any formal charges, often when they have said or done something the government did not care for.

You are just wrong my friend. This very forum would not be allowed to exist in Singapore. You and I would be in danger of being taken to jail for doing what we are doing right now. I get that y'all want to hate America because your own life has gone awry and someone has to be at fault but it ain't the United States my friend, it is the individual.

I’d also like to not live in a country like japan where nearly 50% of every dollar earned over 270k is taxed.

There are villages here with no cops and virtually no crime.
They send all of their ne'er do wells to the city.

The rest of the world operates on a form of socialism financed by the US Taxpayer. Many of those taxpayers will hold those nations up as shining beacons of what America could be if only there were only white heterosexual folks in America...when it truth if it were not for ALL Americans, those who are white and straight and those who ain't, those other countries would have to spend all their money they spend now on pretty shite and cussing the US on keeping one another from invading one another. The rest of the world are surly teens and the US is their put upon parents. Why so many Americans dismiss the fact that US taxpayers keep the world somewhat safe and secure and allows for some nice shite around the globe is beyond me but I have never met one yet who would not dismiss that fact while in the same breath complain about the lack of a homogenous population in the United States. It is not the diversity of the US that causes problems in the US it is the fear of diversity coupled with our roll as the parents of the world.
Our diversity is a fact. It is either a strength or a weakness. It is only a weakness when we allow our fears to make it one. Our subsidization of what amounts to our competition in the best case and our enemies in the worst case is the actual problem. Spend that money in the US and lo and behold diversity ceases being so frightening. Spend just a portion of it....or simply allow the taxpayer to keep it for himself...and all of a sudden places like Japan have less to spend on pretty shite and diversity in the United States becomes more acceptable to those suffering from irrational fears.
