Both can be dangerous if you put yourself in bad situations. At least Memphis has some good things to offer in exchange for the risk. Jackson, not as much.

Go there often for work.. Gladly stay in the ridgeland/Madison area. I'll say that in Jackson, even being in the "bad" areas sometimes, I feel way more comfortable than I do in New Orleans.
New Orleans seems to have a much higher contingency of animalistic killers who have as little respect for the lives of themselves as they do their victims. Seems they all just expect to be locked up or dead by 18 anyway. Scary (and sad).

Ever go to CMMC? I'm there all the time.. If that area and the downtown west jackson area is considered scary then I LOL.
I've felt far more comfy when in a inmate infirmary prison situation than I do walking around/inside LSU interim and the LSU Lord & Taylor clinics.

Jackson is more shitty
Overall, Memphis suburbs are better but Madison is best individual suburb.
Have lived in both areas.
