My sentiments exactly. Though I’ll probably call them Mr. or Miss/Mrs. To be polite. If they don’t like that, I’ll go see another one.

How does me respecting them or what they know extend to me calling them by a special name? Me going to see them and pay them money is sufficient respect.

Can I get a title for an 85 IQ person that needs to make this type of OP on TD?

Doctor is short for medical doctor. It’s a description. No one calls juris doctors, “doctors” so it’s not honorific
The answer is we should not call PhD’s ‘doctors’

The vast majority of the time I go to a doctor I don’t need them for anything other than to give me medicine for an already self diagnosed issue. In fact, I’d argue most doctors are becoming more and more unnecessary/just a barrier to getting medicine. For example, online doctor visits where you pay to tell them you have an ear infection and get antibiotics. The highest level of doctors/surgeons/specialists deserve to be called doctor tho. Those guys are cool.

Weird thread
Part of their job is to teach things to dumbasses like you. Presidents do have a title…everyone refers to them as president _______ lol.

The only time I use the “doctor” honorific is when I’m referring to the First Lady or talking to my chiropractor

doctor of medicine is MD, doctor of jurisprudence is JD, doctor of philosophy is PhD. why call one doctor if you don't call the others doctor? Doctor is by definition an honorific title. Physician is a description, doctor is not.
you're not making any sense, and i'm not quite sure you know what you're talking about.

Just call them by their first name. It's not really a big deal. If that somehow upsets them (which they won't show it because you're their paying customer and pay their bills, so they wouldn't verbally express to you but would to others), too bad. I call every doctor I visit by their first name. Not gonna give any subset of people special privelege. I treat everyone the same when it comes to title/name.
They can kiss my rod if they do expect me to.
It costs you nothing to show someone respect, and it can pay off handsomely. That's a pretty good ROI.

Plus a lot of the doctors you find in cities like Monroe LA, Alexandria, Lake Charles, Laffy, Shreveport.. some are Caribbean med school grads. Those schools take anyone with a pulse. They weren't good enough to get into US med schools. Took carribean route where like 50% fail out. The other 50% come back to the US and can't get jobs in Dallas, NY, Miami, Boston due to desirability. They almost end up in small towns like Monroe, Alexandria, Lake Charles, and practice family medicine. No caribbean med school grad has ever become a US surgeon. Theyre way to picky for that.
Anyways, since most this board is in Louisiana. It's highly likely your doctor got a 2.4 GPA in biology from LSU, partied way too hard, couldn't make med school, did the Caribbean route, and is now in Family Medicine in your small Louisiana town. Not what you envision a doctor to be.

Lotta projection going on in here.
I call my providers by the only name that means something to me. GRAND INQUISITOR!
"Grand Inquisitor, peer into my blood and fluids with your magical lens, what does it tell you?"

nobody is calling for the disrespecting of physicians. what is simply being argued for is not putting members of one profession on a pedastal that society has deemed worthy of some greater respect above all others.

Doctors do around 11-12 years of education after high school, lol. That’s more than anyone, lol.

And those engineers and psychology PhDs are called doctor as well, lol.

quote:I know a shite ton of doctors and I never met one with a 2.4 in Biology. Also, you realize even if they go to the Caribbean they still have to do their residency like every other US medical school graduate. I do agree I would rather go to a doctor from a US med school. Just a preference.

yes, by their peers and colleagues, but rarely by others.

Engineers maybe not, unless they work at a university, but Psychologists almost always and by everyone.
