m just disputing the notion that that moment was the marker when politics turned ugly.
And you're wrong. Bork was a case study for us in one of my graduate classes on how SCOTUS approval process fundamentally shifted from being fairly apolitical to one of the hardest fought politically.
It's also worth looking at the voting record for SCOTUS nominees from Republican and Democrat presidents. There is a rather large difference between the two when it comes to bipartisan approval post-Bork.

The lives of cops and staff members of those same politicians were in danger as well.
No they weren't.
The politicians weren't even in any danger.

True. The correct term is a failed putsch.

Because there was no attempt to overthrow the government to start.

It was a political protest. Period.
Considering that this was an attempt at an revolt against the government, especially during a time when they were trying to certify the election, that is easily classified as an insurrection.

There is no comparison between the two. And using the term insurrection is just as poor a choice as constant calls of racism and sexism. You can say it a thousand times. It does not make it so. It just undermines what the true meaning of it is.
It was a political protest. Period.
If all you acknowledge is that a lectern was moved then you are just as disingenuous as those that turn a blind eye to the BLM riots. Both were political protests in nature, both went beyond the pale.
When one can't condemn the actions of a group just because they may support or oppose the same politician(s) or movement(s) then they become part of the problem.

Maybe not, but there was certainly an attempt to disrupt and halt the proceedings of government business, and nobody knows what might have happened had those lunatics been able to gain entry to the House chambers while the proceedings were going on and all members were present. It's laughably sad how so many want to downplay the seriousness of that day.

I think they were absolute and utter idiots to enter the Capitol building and do what they did. Period. But to call it an insurrection is pure hyperbole that does nothing to enhance the dialogue. It is meaningless drivel.
