I'm not sure you will find a city that's been on a downward spiral as fast as Shreveport has been falling.

It was kinda fun back in the 80's, it started dying late in that decade.

While Jxn MS is shittier, BR has fallen farther.

I thought BR was paradise when I first went there as a little kid around 1980. Seemed like a safe city (non-NBR, anyway) for the rest of the decade

While Jxn was never all that great in the first place, it really started going to shite in the '90s.

Same with BR in a way. When I came back around 2000 after a decade away, the rot had already set in. I guess the '90s were tough on a lot of Southern cities.

The little BR suburb I grew up in is still a decent place to raise a family and has actually grown a lot since I was a kid.

BR was a much nicer place when I was growing up.

Eh, I grew up in New Orleans, also spent a few years in the Rio Grande Valley - now I live in Baton Rouge

I’m kind of immune to the whole shithole thing

From Cottonport. Wife and I are looking at land in north Ark. I love my coonass heritage and my family roots I will take with me. But it's time to make like a fetus and head out.

Pfft, we have 3 cities in the top 10 in murder rate per capita in the country

#4 New Orleans

#5 Baton Rouge

#8 Shreveport

If there was a playoff, we’d be in the mix every year. I just hope I get to see us take home the NC Trophy. We can throw a parade downtown, followed by some fireworks and gunshots.

BR's decline is generally linked to the busing rulings of judge parker

but keep in mind, every Southern city is in decline. it's part of being a southern city. some just hit the skids faster than others.

When democrats started getting elected in the big cities.

No shite. It's not just in LA either.

Now the legal system in dem cities are letting the criminals go without repercussions so it's not going to get better.

No - I think it’s earlier than that

In NOLA for sure it was LBJ’s new deal and the change in the policies for housing and urban development

As for the bayou area (Houma and such) it was the oil bust of the ‘80s

I’m not too familiar with any other part of LA - I live in BR now and just my neighborhood has changed within 5 years - BR seems to move at a faster pace than NOLA

You still had Republican governors and state legislators. Not shocked that this is never accounted for.

I don’t think it did any of us any favors, but it was getting bad before Katrina. It probably just exacerbated the criminal element problem already in place outside of New Orleans, but as far as BR is concerned, Fallguy is right. BR wasn’t nearly this bad when i was growing up, or at the very least it wasn’t this spread out. I mean, I used to date girls who lived off Plank growing up, and we hung around parks on that end of town as well occasionally, areas that today might very easily get you killed, and that’s the truth.
