I did not know this was a primary offense. I thought it had to be a secondary offense meaning she had to get pulled over for something else for them to charge her with this.
This was the initial reason given for the stop (one of many coming later) which is reasonable to stop them.
Once it was established she was legal, they have no basis to detain them unless they suspect a crime is being committed.
They were both arrested for obstruction of justice. Unreal.

It's too bad that judges and prosecutors don't give a shite what the law says anymore.

Welcome to the USA where your rights "don't come into play" when being detained by a police officer.

You are such an idiot.

No. No it is not.
Pretty sure it's a secondary offense.

Any self respecting judge will throw this out with the quickness.
Somes judges HATE cops for this very reason. The prosecutor will take the case though because of the blue line.

You might be right. I was thinking expired tag.
I still think they can stop you if the primary holder of the vehicle is expired but you might be right.

Sandusky police Assistant Chief Phil Frost said Officer Christopher Denny stopped Said's car because her Ohio license plate number showed she had an expired Ohio driver's license.

As soon as the woman's licence plate and id came back valid with no warrants they should have been free to go. Defending the police afterwards is insane.
You really don't understand constitutionally protected civil rights.
I didn't realize being polite to a douchebag police officer overstepping his bounds and illegally detaining you was a legal requirement

if you get pulled over, there is a reason.
The reason is frequently that they are fishing for an arrest, and it is a random stop. You sound naive.

Frost did note that the mention of Child Protective Services was not a threat but he did speak with officers about this.
"I don't look at (the mention of Children's Services) as a threat; I would rather it not be taken as a threat," Frost said. "Could that ultimately happen to someone being arrested, yes...we do not want to displace a child from their mom or parent. They were counseled on their use of that last evening," Frost said. "I don't like the way it was used personally and it was already addressed."
What a load of horse shite... it was absolutely used as a threat. The mother was fricking crying and kept saying "I don't want them to take my baby".

•“I don't look at (the mention of Children's Services) as a threat; I would rather it not be taken as a threat,” Frost said. “Could that ultimately happen to someone being arrested, yes...we do not want to displace a child from their mom or parent.”
Officers were spoken with Thursday night about issue, however.
“They were counseled on their use of that last evening,” Frost said. “I don't like the way it was used personally and it was already addressed.”
•Oglesby took issue with the mention of social workers in particular.
"The utilization of Children's Services to further the interest of the drug task force...is a problem," the attorney said.
This came from the police chief

This is everything wrong with police all wrapped up into one.
Overreach of power, intimidation tactics, and outright lying. If they would have used unreasonable force that would have been the grand slam.
I'm so pissed about this. I want to donate to this guy's legal fund.

Serious question.
Do police just ride around checking peoples license plates for no reason?
I mean,if i see a cop behind me in traffic, stopped at a redlight. Is he checking my plate? Is there a special camera they use that checks /scans every license plate going down the road?
